I think they should mould the characters more so we can sympathise them. It would make us feel involved and it would show how we can relate to the characters. Take Massive for example. Maybe he wants more money is so he can pay off a debt. Or maybe he had a bad upbringing, or a lost love that hurt him or

Massive uses his powers to slam me against a wall.

Massive: Shut your face cat!

Me: Or maybe he's just plain evil.

Eh. . .I think only a select few (three at the very most), villains should have a symphathetic past. Too much and it becomes boring and a little too emo. Some people are just greedy, crazy, or a combination of the two. That doesn't mean I think that all the villains should all be 1-dimensional. Quite the contrary.

Some of the Batman villains were very sympathetic (Mr. Freeze, Clayface, Two-Face), but others were just crazy to begin with (Joker) or overracted to their situation (Mad Hatter, Riddler, Scarecrow). Yeah, life might suck if your boss thinks you are a loser who cannot contribute to the company or the love of your life dumps you, but really, most of us go through the same stuff but do not don costumes to take revenge on the entire population.

Massive and Sypher were people who saw they were given abilities and decided to exploit it for personal gain. Weathervane just went postal one day. Same with Time Skip and Dr. Zane. Optimatus and Deuce were megalomaniacs who lusted after power and revenge. Black Velvet had potential for being a sympathetic character, but it was like they just mentioned her circumstances and left it at that. A lost opportunity for some depth there. Mallory can go either way, if they ever decide to bring her back. Stomper, Pierre and Sam were plain old crooks. Dr. Dare, Ringmaster, and the Ice Vikings were merely evil for the sake of being evil really. No real motivation. Sly Vester was a hired mercenary and Grannicus also lusted after power. Though, with the way they portrayed Tweetums, I'm very tempted to give those two my sympathies. Who in their right mind would willingly subject themselves to that?

So while I agree that the show could benefit from some character development in the villain department as well as with the hero, one has to be careful that it isn't overdone and doesn't drift into soap opera territory.

I totally agree with everything you've said there Martiangirl. It'd be good to see one or two villains with sympathetic stories, but not too many, otherwise it'll be overdoing it a bit. I also wouldn't mind seeing a character that's in between good and bad, a rogue anti-hero or something perhaps that has no fixed allegiance.

But having said that we'd like to see some more character depth in villains, we musn't forget the stars of the show themselves, the Loonatics. They could always benefit from more character development i think. Put them in new and challenging scenarios where their relations and teamwork skills are put to the test; create an individual-affecting experience that will change some of them mentally or teach them something important; create a crisis situation where they will have to make difficult decisions between the team and/or something else; a couple of shocks and surprises about each of the Loonatics could raise interest in them too (perhaps revealing certain past facts, secrets or skills about each of them or if one of them does something unexpected for example); and delving into each of their psyches/minds would be most enlightening for us in regards to their inner states, what makes them tick, what's important to them in life etc!

And i don't know why, but i'm dying to see Tech create some kind of really cool heavy-duty battle exosuit for himself one day! With all the in-built artillery trimmings too! He! He! I keep envisioning him bursting onto a scene with guns ablazing and all sorts of cool automated defences and devices popping out of his armour! I really want to see him clearing the floor of villains like that one day!

Definetly, more Rev centered episdes. It's about time that he started to do the butt kicking and maybe be the leader in one episode. I would like to hear more of his laughs and find out about more of his personal life and issues.

Personally, I'd like to see a crime syndicate of some kind. Some fo the baddies getting together to form their own gang. Most likely the villains who on their own wouldn't do much (like the non-powered criminals). Or a crime war where the the non-powered and the superpowered villains battle for control over the city, and the Loonatics have to stop them from killing off innocents and each other in the warzones.

Now that sounds like a most intriguing idea there! The Loonatics caught up in between a big underworld crime war where they'd have to stop two villainous factions and protect people! They'd have to make some choices about which of the two evils were the greater threat at the time and how to handle the escalating situation. Sounds like a very complicated challenge for the Loonatics!

What I'd like to see is Rev getting an offensive attack. If he could attack more, he'd get more screentime, which is what I wanna see. Not only because it's Rev, but also because it leads to character development, we could find out what his relationship with the other Loonatics is a bit more!

I agree. That's exactly what I want. I don't just mean development on his powers, but fighting too, actually fighting villians.

I think it would be good to see Rev more combative, though I don't think a new power would necessarily make it better. I'd like to see him more like Flash maybe, rapid combat moves, punches and kicks.

I concur. Whenever Rev punches or kicks a bad guy, it'd be like machine gun fire pelting into them! That's gotta be painful! But i guess there just hasn't been another villain that's strong enough to survive such rapid fire attacks since Massive, hence why Rev probably takes the non-direct approach most of the time. If he started rapidly punching and kicking every villain he meets, he'd knock them all out in seconds!

The same problem would probably go for another offensive superpower. But at least if there is an evil army, Rev would be good for most of the grunt work.

Yep, theoretically, Rev would probably be able to take out the highest number of enemies in the shortest time possible. But i guess he just doesn't often have the opportunity to let loose. With Tech, Rev and Slam tho', i gotta agree that the full potential usage of their powers is not always utilized in every ep. Hmm, actually, now that i think about it, Ace hasn't being using his optic lasers much lately either. He likes to use his sword more now. Duck seems to be teleporting an awful lot in this 2nd season. And Tech seems to prefer using weaponry of his own making when possible. Hmm, maybe the writers were trying to think of other ways to have the Loonatics save the day other than with just super powers.

I got that impression too. I'm still undecided as to whether that's a good thing or a bad thing.

The key is a balance between the two. If you've got superpowered heroes, yes, you should let them show off a bit with their powers in battles, but that's also got to be balanced out with other skills of theirs, like strategizing and planning. Normally i'd say the brain and teamwork factors make the best core features to emphasize with super powers adding to their delivery in a show, but i'm not entirely certain whether LU is nailing that quite right if that's what they're trying to do. Hmm...

So far, most of the villains in the second season have had no superpowers, just super technology. Adolpho was really the only exception. Dr. Dare and Rip would have been powerless without the aid of a device. Take that away and they're out of it. Season 1 mostly focused on the powers, so as a result the Loonatics fought superpowered villains all the time to match them. But superpowers against guns, robots, and whatnot do not have the same effect, unless they had to battle Tech's inventions or something on that level.

That's a good observation. They used their superpowers more to take on superpowered villains, but now that they're facing alot of opponents who are 'powerless' so to speak, they seem to be resorting to other methods of taking them down. I guess that's a reasonable thing to expect. And i think it is a good thing that not all the villains this season are just cliched superpowered villains like in S1. It means that those 'unpowered' villains, and the Loonatics as a result, have to clash in different ways, and the Loonatics get to face new types of threats.

It's true that Ace hasn't been using his lazer vision. I think that the Loonatics have not been using much of their superpowers, but yet; their natural abilities or it's the other way around. I'm not sure. Also, Zadavia has been absent for the past few episodes, so I have a theory that she is hiding something.

Also, I didn't quite say that if Rev had a new superpower, it would change things. I meant that I don't only want development in his superpowers. But, you and Martiangirl both make good points, Black Oracle. Rev hasn't been up to his full potential and has not been able to find many oppurtunities of being more combative. He should also do more than just punches and kicks; I think that the writers should really not underuse him that much, just because he was the descendant of the Road Runner. Everytime I do watch season 1, I notice that he barely had any screentime. Now, I think that season 2 should be a fresh start for him.

I do think S2 has made some effort to include Rev and Slam a bit more with the eps "I Am Slamacus" and "Family Business", you can't say that the writers completely didn't do anything for them this season. But i do agree that generally speaking, Ace, Duck and Lexi are still the main focus trio of the lot. And Duck has had loads of major roles so far this season! It's like Duck is their essential comedy ingredient in every ep! I think Slam and Rev could fulfill comical roles too if that's what the writers are wanting. Me thinks they're overestimating the Daffy popularity.

Stronger villains would be really cool. Not as strong as Optimatus (since he's like the king of all evildoers), but powerful enough to maybe have another two-part episode (or movie :) *pray*)

I personally thought that all the stuff would be good for LUO. But I would make as many good sub characters as there are bad ones.

I chose more outings cos it would be interesting to see how the Loonatics would cope without being in their farmiliar seroundings.
