Which do you prefer? I go to a private school, and honestly, I love it! I've heard of what public schools are like, and I don't think that I would get the grades that I'm getting at my school.
In my school, all the grades are in on room, excluding the preschoolers, cause most of their work will disturb us. We do our work in workbooks we call "PACES" and we work at our own pace. We have a supervisor who pretty much runs the show, and monitors who help her. The students have mini flags (A Canadian one and a Christian one) and we put them up to ask to score our work or ask another question. I think that the one thing that I hate about my school would be that we have to wear uniforms. Believe me, you do not want to know what they look like. But, once a month we get 'dress down days' where the girls get to wear skirts and the boys wear pants.
Anyway, which do you prefer?

Public schools - 'cause you don't have to wear uniforms. X3
Me sister goes to a private school (that I used to go to for preschool). She hates it, mainly because she went to another school for a few years and made friends and now she's all sad without them. DX So she hates all other schools.

Wow everything you just metioned about that school is...pretty stupid,i hate private schools espically Christian and catholic ones those people need to realize that there are other religions besides their own and learn to deal with the fact that not everyone shares the same beliefs as them and to learn to work together with one another.
and btw it doesn't matter what type of school you go to it doesn't affect your grades in slightest.
Hey, loonaticfan. Don't you think that's a little harsh? Yes, that setup is rather unorthodox, and I personally would prefer something more traditional, but it's not anyone's place to judge. Concerning Christian schools, if you have an issue with enforcing beliefs, take it up with the parents. Those schools function the way they do because that's what the parents want. Finally, regarding grades, what are you basing that claim on? How many of the possibilities have you personally experienced? It may not change anything for you, but different things work for different people.

My sister goes to a Catholic school. XD My family is, in a sense, atheist. (Myself, I believe in God, and that's enough to have them attack me for recognizing Lent. XP) Catholic schools don't insist that you become a Catholic, they just are run by Catholics. My sister prays more now as a result from the school, but I don't think she really has her heart in it.
And the type of school does matter - my sister went to Franklin Fine Arts Center, and they didn't even teach her division(and she was almost in third grade! Then again, I dunno what grade you're supposed to learn division in...). Not until we transferred her to my old preschool (which also includes 1st-5th grades) did she finish learning her multiplication tables and start on division. At Frankling, she learned to dance and...uh...what else did they teach?...
look all I'm saying is that I believe that schools like that are bias, I Have had MANY experiences i have been to 10 different schools in my life time two private and believe me the worst years of my life were at them. I know that some schools like that are cool but no one should enforce anything on anyone regardless if your parents believe in one thing or the other.I realize that some schools suck to go to but if a school teaches the states required material then there is NO excuse for you to have any trouble doing your best in school.
P.S.I know a was a little harsh before but those are my beliefs regarding this matter.
loonaticfan - That's fine. I wasn't criticizing your opinion, just your wording. It came across as very... confrontational.
I guess I should put my two-cents worth in: Your school must be really small to make putting everyone together feasible, Cassidy (or would you rather be called by Danielle?). How many students? Ew, school uniforms. The only uniforms you should have to wear in school are for sports and marching band.
Don't prejudge all public schools. The public school system is about as diverse as you can get, from those where someone getting shot or dying from a drug overdose is a very real possiblity, to ones that are more like private schools. The school system I attended for most of my education fell into the latter category, mostly because it was in Small Town, USA. There are about 300 students in the elementary school, <200 in the middle school, and a little less than 300 in the high school. My graduating class had exactly 70 people in it. I did both home school (my mom's a math professor) and a very small private school before I went public. The public school was small enough to not really feel any different, but big enough to have a decent selection of extracurricular activities. Now I'm at a major university with 18,000 students. Quite a drastic change, but sometimes the anonymity is nice.

and that is why i like you Skifox;you know what thats like almost all of what you said was what it was for me my graduating class from middle school had also about 70-75.
P.S. again I apologize for what I said earlier and I hope no one takes that personally.just stating my opinion.
Well, I go to a private school. If I went to a public school, I'd be speaking Greek and ratherly poorly English.
I'm happy with my private school: it's considered a good one (it's quite competitive), I get to do O Levels and A Levels (we go by English system) so I could study in UK (the students in public Cypriot schools don't have much of a chance). I also like wearing uniform - even though it makes me look a little fat (damn you, grey jumpers!) I'm glad that I don't have to spend time thinking about what I'm going to wear the next day. Also, uniforms give me a sense of discipline and order. I'm pretty much known as the no-nonsense student, but how I behave in private life is a completely different story.

Yes, it is small. From preschool to grade 12 we have 13 kids.
And as for the name, whichever, just it gets kinda tricky cause Cassidy is my conscience, but it doesn't matter.
I agree. uniforms suck.

Sounds interesting. XD The most exciting thing I've seen at school is Mr. Solomon using a flamethrower to set fire to soap bubbles in the air. Or the exploding pumpkin. That was cool too. I don't have any memories of the private school I went to, but my sister goes there now, so I can visit with an excuse. X3
Heh, I went to a Catholic school when I was in elementary and then switched to public in third grade 'cause we weren't catholic XD
In high school, we wore I.D. badges O_O they were the ugliest things ever. Looking back at it now, I wish they would've gone with uniforms... It woulda saved my parents lots of money from me nagging at the them to buy me new clothes constantly... Geez. I was a spoiled child... but by the end of high school, I felt bad for spending their money and so, I got a job XD And now lookatme!
Anyways, just because a school is a catholic school -- does it actually qualify as private? 'Cause here in toronto, the public schools are run by the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and then all catholic schools are run by the TDCSB (I'll let you guess what the C stands for ) The elementary ones don't use uniforms, but I know the catholic high schools here do... X3
Akira: Here in the States, public schools are funded mostly by the government. Students can attend their county or city's public school system for "free", though the parents do pay for it indirectly through taxes. Private schools are paid for entirely through tuition, donations, and sometimes support from private organizations (like the Roman Catholic Church). There's some controversy over here right now because parents who send their kids to private school still have to pay the taxes that fund the public schools. Some people think the government is trying to strangle out private schools by keeping it more beneficial financially to go public.
Because public schools are government operated, they're severely limited in what they can force on students. That usually means no uniforms, dress codes that aren't terribly restrictive, and no required courses outside the four core subjects. Private schools can do basically anything they want, though it's generally the ones with a religious affiliation or that cater to the wealthy that exercise that ability the most.
Oddity: $300 just to get in!? The regular tuition to keep attending must be insane!

I'll say! X( Alison's tuition at St. Bruno's was a heckuva lot...mommy and daddy just wouldn't ever tell me how much it was 'cause I was too little. XD We wanted to have her in my old school, Skinner, but there were just too many kids trying to get in already. So Alison went to Franklin Fine Arts Center, which was total crap. Now she's at St. Therese, where I used to go for preschool. X3 There's a cool church there.
Actually, the English system of classifying schools is different:
-Private Schools are attended by students who are of certain ethnic backgroud, religion etc. for example Catholic schools. Students pay very high tutuion fees and they are for the elite. They wear uniforms.
-Public Schools are attended by students from different backgrounds and they pay tution fees. Not as good as private schools (because private schools are usualy funded by rich indiviaduals to promote their cause) but the best alternative for well-to-do foreigners. They wear uniforms.
- State schools are funded by the government and they are the poorest quality (because the teachers and equipment are poorly paid). Students don't wear uniforms. And these students have the least of a chance of getting into a good university.
That's how my economics teacher described to us (he studied in UK, like most us are going to do).
And is there anyone in this thread who likes uniforms?

I would've made a Loonatics uniform to wear to school on superhero day, but they only gave us a notice of it about twenty-three hours before the actual date. XP They really have to warn us about these things earlier!
I was too young to actually remember my time in public school (which consisted only of Kindergarten and part of Grade 1). I've grown to like private schools.
I went to a Catholic co-ed elementary school and later chose to attend a Catholic all girl highschool). Didn't care for the uniforms, and my blaser always ended up in tatters like it was made out of cheap felt. But I think the education I recieved during those years was more beneficial. I learned skills that I had previously assumed as being taught to everybody in all schools. Basic grammer for one and proper sentence structure, which turned out to be essential for college application essays. I think private schools in general tend to have a better track record in education. Probably because they are more strict in terms of discipline (at least my school was) and usually have a higher standard curriculum since they aren't regulated by state and federal restrictions and budgets.
Plus Catholic schools are some of the more affordable private schools, which was plus. Diversity wasn't an issue in my experience either since we had plenty of kids from all backgrounds in our highschool (black, white, hispanic, asian, Muslim, Hindu, Protestant, etc). At least in NYC, public schools don't have a great reputation, though I'm sure the story is different in other places. Private and public schools have both their pros and cons, but I personally prefer private and I don't regret my decision.
