Maybe I just missed it, but I'm surprised nobody's made this topic yet.
Anyway, my favorite movie of all time would be Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. It's one of the few films I actually want to continuously rewatch. Most of you youngsters here probably don't fully grasp the concept of that movie, but I think it's a masterpiece; an amazing blend of factors ranging from heartbreaking to touching, comedic to real, and is simply profound on a personal level. If anybody hasn't seen it, I suggest you do.
So what's your favorite movie and why? Try to keep it short.

That is a tough question, my fellow LU fan. I like the Pirates of the Caribbean movies (can`t wait to see At World`s End), Disney`s movies have entertained me now and then, and Dreamworks is a good rival for Disney (Shrek is certainly a laugh), so...hard to say. I don`t really have a favorite, but there are several I like. I suppose if they ever made a movie for, say, Ratchet & Clank or Jak and Daxter, I`d love it, but there`s no plans of any such thing in the works currently.
This may seem kinda sily but two of my faverit movies are 'Spac Jam' and 'Looney Toons Back in Action' I gess I realy like thes W.B. cartoons But any way I have a lot of favetit moves Not jest one.
me too siamese712. Your not alone there! I just love the WB movies and I keep watching Space Jam, Looney Tunes: Back in Action and some LT episodes that I've taped along with the LU season 1 dvds. I have way too many favs to count. But I absolutely ADORE the Free Wily movies, the Black Stallion and Black Beauty.
My favorite movie tends to change a lot. XP Right now, it's the The Prestige, because of the complexity of the characters (and because it's the only time you see Batman kill Wolverine... heh. XD ) and the story, and the Infernal Affairs trilogy (which is what The Departed is based on)... just because I think it's really cool. XP

Good choice. The Prestige was an incredibly intriguing movie to me, especially with a lot of its ironies. Have you seen Memento? It was done by the same director and contains the same sort of mind-bending elements.

Oh, man...you wouldn't believe how many favorite movies I have. Movies just tap into the parts of brain that loves visual, intellectual, and emotional stimulation. When they're done right, they're done right. I'll just list all of the movies I love at the top of my head:
Sin City- Introduced me to my personal comic book idol, Frank Miller. I was just a little teeny bopper when it came out, and it was love at first sight. It's a wonderfully done adaptation, with seamlessly woven together stories from the original graphic novels, great casting and acting, and the way it's filmed is wonderfully creative and appropriate for the gritty, noir-esque universe Frank created.
Chocolat- I've yet to read the original novel, (but I've been dying to do so) but it really doesn't take away from the warm, cozy feeling the movie gave me when I first watched it. If you think chick-flicks are nothing but garishly-bright, witless service to adolescent girls, you might be pleasently surprised by this film. If not, at least Johnny Depp is especially yummy.
Wings of Desire- A simply beautiful movie. I stand by the notion that everyone should try to see it at least once. Heck, why are you still reading this? Go out there! Buy it! Steal it! Read about it online!
Howl's Moving Castle- Have I ever said that I adore Miyazaki with every cell in my body? This is, IMO, his best film ever. The relationship between Howl and Sophie leaves me eeeing madly, and the animation is your basic-averge Miyazaki sensitive n' gorgeous. Heck, you should try to watch most, if not all, of his other movies. I highly recommend Spirited Away or Kiki's Delivery Service.
Disney's Beauty and the Beast and La Belle et la Bette-I couldn't decide which of these two breath-taking adaptations to the classic story I loved more, so I'm including them both. The former is my all-time favorite Disney film, while the latter is maybe the most uniquely compelling, poetic telling of the story.
Les Yeux sans Visage (The Eyes without a Face)- Another French film I adore, only this one is horror. It's not your conventional "look at the monster with a zipper on it's back" horror, or "Oh Christ her guts are all over the screen" horror either. It's maybe the most subtle, heart-rending horror film I have ever seen. The cineamatagraphy is excellent, and the story is well thought-out and well-paced. You have to see this film to believe it, really.
Gojira (original 1954 version)-When I saw this for the first time at a local theater, in all of it's unedited, uncut glory, I understood for the first time why Gojira/Godzilla made such a fuss-it's actually a really good movie. It's made even more understandable by knowing what context it is made in. (Japanese especially jittery about nuclear power, still coming to terms with World war 2) After all these years, the score gives me shivers, and the story is actually very compelling for a kaiju film.
The Elephant Man- The first movie in my memory that left me in tears at the end; let's put it that way.

Life is never perfect, but that doesn't mean it's not good.

They're my favourites too! I love the part in Looney Toons Back In Action where that man and woman, Buggs Bunny and Daffy Duck were falling from the sky in the car and Daffy shouted down the phone: "Is this the world news? I have a big scoop! Buggs Bunny is going to die!" I laughed my head off at that bit! I can see where Danger Duck gets his memorable analogies from .
I'd lie if I said I have a top favourite movie. I cannot watch something over and over again and no matter how much i LOVE something, there are times in which I'd rather watch something else to...'change air' if you know what I mean. It's like listening to the same type of music: on the long run it loses its charm.
But the movies that gave me really strong emotions or went as far as to change my life are Alien (all of them, though the first is classic), Signs which creeped the hell out of me, White Oleander, the Nightmare Before Christmas, Pirates of the Carribean and a few others.
But I'm more into amination than live action, both traditional and CGI. Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron was wonderful, not only because we got to see a story from a horse's point of view that didn't involve actual talking (just his throughs), but I love western stories that don't revolve around cowboys and their rivality with natives. The music was absolutely wonderful, listening to the soundtrack STILL makes me teary because it's just so wonderfully potent. And of course, the animation was pure eyecandy. Shrek and Shreak 2 are just hilarious. I love it because it's very kid-friendly but has tons of adult humor and references to classics that fly over the younger's head. It can be enjoyed by everyone and I think that in a few years, today's kids will only be amused at the amount of subtle messages they missed. Ice Age and sequel are just as great. I think these movies managed to crack me up more than Shrek did, if memory serves me right, I think I felt sick because of laughter when I was watching Ice Age 2 at the cinema. SCRAT FTW.
There are tons of others of course, but I wouldn't finish....XD
I like The Notebook sonce (a) it's a love story, and (b) it's a good one. Saw it less than a week ago and I love it. I liked The Reaping too. Nice scary movie with an interesting idea.
Ayelet_Ripley wrote:But I'm more into amination than live action, both traditional and CGI. I know what you mean. If I ever reach a point in life where I can begin my own animation studio, I`m gonna be all about the CELs and CGIs. To be honest, live action bores me to death (save for a few exceptions such as PotC), especially films that have little to no humor.
This is a question for all on this thread: do you prefer if cartoons are 3D or 2D?
Call me conservative or old-fashioned, but I do prefer 2D over 3D. 3D somehow lacks lacks the charm of its predecessors, but I do like when the characters are 2D with CGI backgrounds.

Not yet, but I'm thinking of seeing it soon. I'm also thinking of seeing Eternal Sunshine as well.
As for the CGI vs. Traditional, I'm going to have to say that Tradition animation beats out CGI any day in my book. Although I think my favorite type of animation would be stop-motion.

I guess I'm old fashioned too cause for me its: cartoons in 2D FTW
And I've seen High School Musical and I live in Canada. But I dont like it very much since my sister puts it on all the time!! I never should've bought her the dvd.
This is a question for all on this thread: do you prefer if cartoons are 3D or 2D?
I prefer 2D. CGI renderings of characters often make them look like giant plush or plastic 'toys' that move. At this point I prefer stop-motion clay animation, such as Nightmare Before Christmas, and the Corpse Bride because they look MUCH more alive than 3D characters. Of course, there are exceptions. Pixar and Dreamworks have come a long way, their recent CGI movies have a lot of life in them.
In the artistic point of view, I consider computer animation a result of 'lazy artists' works. 2D requires much more effort because you have to draw every frame, but once you have the basic 3D model down, you can make it do whatever you want.
I support a mixture of both though. The Lion King used computer animation for the wildebeest chase as support for the 2D characters. They also used a 3D model in Spirit, to make the running of the horse as realistic as possible, but they drew the model over, so it's still 2D with a great realistic effect.
Well, that depends on the animation. I think Neopets` animations are pretty good (they render almost everything in flash nowadays), but yes, there are some crappy efforts out there on the `net. Although, sometimes Flash isn`t what you might think it is. For example, have any of you ever heard of Super Mario Bros. Z? It`s a Flash-animation project crossover between Super Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog by someone known as Alvin Earthworm (he`s an Earthworm Jim fan), using sprites from both characters` games and with a Dragon Ball Z insipration.
It`s actually pretty good, with very authentic dialogue (there`s not a lot of voice acting, though) and a sufficiently believable story. There`s a site for the project here, as well as videos of each of the 5 parts (part 6 coming soon) on YouTube. If you don`t mind fights parodying DBZ (there`s four so far, with one currently in progress), you might want to check it out. Don`t worry, no blood, although there are some pretty rough blows.
my favorite movie is evil dead 3 army of darkness because the mane carrither ash has a chainsaw for a hand and a shortened double barreled shotgun and fights off deadits(zombies) and also makes fun of them
It's hard to decide....I'm guessing: Oliver and Company, Cats Don't Dance!, The Fearless Four and the Digimon movie.
Pegasusmon: We all saw that coming.
Me: I like Oliver and Company and Cats Don't Dance! case they're movies from my childhood. And cause of Dodger and his song. Dodger's so cute! And I love his song! The Fearless Four cause it's darker than most children's movies and I haven't seen it for a while.
Pegasusmon: Last year.
Me: SHUT UP PEGASUSMON! And the Digimon movie cause.....well, isn't it obvious?
I don't really have a favourite movie, but if I had to pick it would be -searches DVD collection- Final Fantasy &: Advent children because I like Final fantasy and because the graphics were exceptional...
I like High School Musical. Not sure if you heard of it considering I am the only one from Singapore...( I think )
HEARD OF IT? I FLIPPIN' LOVE IT! 8D
Hehe....
High School Musical 1 and 2 (We're all in this together!!!!) Dreamer (Amazing horse movie) Racing Stripes (very funny movie; horse-filled) Facing The Giants (awesome Christian movie, a must-watch) Space Jam (Just plain awesome. XD) Looney Tunes: Back In Action (Once, again, just plain awesome) Night At The Museum (Way too funny for words!)
More, but I can't think of them right now! XD

Girl, Interrupted - A disturbingly fantastic flick that gives you a decent view inside a mental hosptial. Mind, it's a rather mild mental hospital - nothing too One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, but the film was just great. Angelina Jolie in particular was fantastic.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - I'm probably the only person here who'd like this movie. I guess you just have to be a Hunter Thompson fan and a Johnny Depp fan.
Edward Scissorhands - Seriously, I just love this film. It's classic.
Dogma - Erm, the less said about this, the better.
Airplane! - One of the all time comedy classics.
My Favorite Year - This movie's less known, but it's classic on many levels.
