The Top 5 worst things about Loonatics Unleashed
Permalink

A good deal of us have been down because of the news that Loonatics won't be on the fall line-up of Kids WB this year.  (myself included) There's always the possibility of it returning in the Spring, but in the meantime, we should try to remain as jovial as possible.  One of the things I do is make fun of the show to avoid the doldrums associated with realizing that one of the few watcable things on television isn't having any new episodes any time soon in spite of multiple loose ends that have yet to be tied up.

And now, for what we've all come to read:

The Top 5 worst things about Loonatics Unleashed

  1. The very first awkwardly animated, poorly written episode where the main characters sound creepy and unfamiliar because the actors hadn't gotten used to their roles yet.  Warner Brothers should just do themselves a favor and try their best to hide the fact this ep was ever made.  How it might have been worse: The show could have not gone anywhere in the future.  By the time Comet Cometh aired, there was a heavenly chorus of the words "WTF?!  YOU MEAN TO TELL ME THIS SHOW HAS A PLOT???!!"
  2.  Duck's beak.  Just look at it.  What was the guy who did his character design thinking?  "Oh hey!  Those kids just love unnatural, hard-to-look-at facial appendages!"
  3. The folks who viciously proclaim that Warner Brothers are being a bunch of greedy jerks while said folks are making money off of fanart of the Looney Toons and Loonatics alike.
  4. How three different writers wrote individual episodes of the three-part season two finale.  I havn't seen a train wreck in terms of story-telling and planning since Archie-Sonic's EndGame (#47-50) arc.
  5. How we've yet to actually see how those six short dopes we love so much acually got together.

Christ, guys.  It's called satire.  You can't take the show that seriously, can you?

Anna, you're obviously my kind of stand-out-from-the-crowd person. I'd been recently thinking over the appearance of Duck's bill, too. It's so.. geometrical.

Well I have to agree on the fact that they didn't show at least an episode on how they got together. They showed what they did before they recieved their powers. But us fans are left tying up the lose ends on how they actually got together.

I'm not sure whether to agree on Duck's beak. I'm not saying that it looks good or bad. It's just many of us who are artists managed to find a way of drawing Duck's beak without a problem. I just guess we just like him for who he is.

I just guess since so many of us like the show so much, that we try and focus on the good things about the show and create so many things from it. Fan fictions, fan arts, videos, at least it isn't the most unpopular kids show in the world.

Well, that's what satire is. It's not being cruel, but using negative humor in a way that's not meant to be taken seriously and simply laughed at. I have no problem with Duck. Love the guy. But I like to make fun of things, too =3

Wait, how does making fun of the show make us racists...? o_O

I like satire. I appreciate people who make fun or the things they love a lot more than overly protective people. Liking something doesn't mean loving *everything* about it, or worse, focing youself to like even the weaker points of a show/videogame/what have you. That's not being ' a true fan', it's just being either blind or one of those extremist fans. And that's bad 'cause it's what gives a show -or should i say the fandom- bad reputation.

I love LU, probably a lot more than I should. It's sad I'm going to have to admit that but the show's the only thing that managed to give me happiness the past few months. And yet, making fun of is is something I enjoy.

Thanks a lot, Shagster! I'm flattered.  ^_^ Hope we can chat more in the future.

Still, whatever do we do about Duck's beak?  Where does that kind of geometric shape fit into biology?   There is only one solution...DISSECTION!!!111

Okay, jokes aside, I think it's a little known fact that Duck is one my favorite characters.  He holds himself in such high regard, it's just so easy to tease him, you know?

I was being silly.  Besides, they are indeed short (aside from Slam) and I think there's plenty of evidence that they are a little dopey.  I mean, not knowing who your boss is exactly for nearly a year of work?  Wouldn't that be kind of iffy in real life?  (laughs)

Yeah I know that now. Sorry, last night I was half asleep but now that I'm fully awake...

5. The opening credit introductions. Both seasons, but especially the 2nd season's. I mean I can't listen to it for more than 10 seconds without having an urge to jump out a closed window. Which brings me to...

4. That guy who... raps? rambles? What IS that? during the 2nd season intro who plays that guitar. I forgot his name. He's one of the most annoying characters I've ever seen on TV. He sorta reminds me of my brother when he's drunk.

3. The occasional window-splitting they occasionally do for, apparently, dramatic effect. I don't know, it's just so ridiculously corny and just makes me think "Wow, that's ridiculously corny."

2. Tweetums. Man I hate that little guy.

1. That $#*&$% maniacal laughter. Ye gods, ALL of the villainous characters do it. I mean, what's so funny? Every time I try to think about destroying the entire city of Houston it doesn't really make me laugh. It just makes me want a sandwich. I'm not quite sure why. Hmm, maybe its because I always thought maniacal laughter was lame, but it happens in every friggin' episode on this show.

Honorable Mention: Tech whenever he says something like "You can say it, I'm a genius" or "I'm just a brilliant scientist." I love the guy, but when he pulls that stuff I just want to slap him in the FACE. I can't, of course, so I just slap myself in the face. I guess that's kinda counter-productive.

I guess this sounds like a lame attempt at redeeming my earlier post... which I guess it is. But those are legitimate grievances I have with the show anyway. I'm not deprived of a sense of humor, guys... I'm really not D:

Ah, dun worry. Iz cool. smile

I definately agree with the maniacical laughter thing. At least Deuce is sexy when he does it. I can't say the same for the likes of Dr.Zane,though.

Heh, I thought Deuce was one of the better-looking villains. There actually seemed to be an attempt at giving him a unique design.

And I like that the split window scenes give that corny feeling. It's like 24 in cartoon form, and that thought makes me laugh biggrin

Ya good point.

Yes they are short but, wouldn't it be weirder if they were the same size, or taller, then the humans?

Not knowing your own boss after a year of work under them, ya I'd call that dopey, maybe just plain stupid or lazy. Guess they didn't do their homework.

I understand now so no hard feelings, ok? I mean....I realize now, what would be a show if we couldn't make fun of it or the characters? It would be boring. And after all, those mistakes are what drive us crazy but it doesn't drive us away. And niether will making fun of it. Its what makes talking about it more fun.

You know what else is annoying? The villains don't have a background or anything that will make you sympathise with them and understand the situation they were in that drove them 'evil'.

Well, if they actually gave the villains backround, we wouldn't have time for those lovely commercials for unhealthy food, worthless and overpriced toys, and kiddie fashion products, would we?

.....I just hate commercials, okay?

I can't be bothered to come up with 5 things right now, but THE thing that annoys the hell out of me, is Zadavia.
I just want to smack her off of that pedestal she seems to be proudly standing on all the time. And then go convince Duck to stop seeking her approval whenever he does something. Why does he want to impress her anyway? Why do the 'tics literally submit to her? D: This always bothered me.

Why does Zadavia never thank Duck? OK, she did in the last episode, but didn't sound genuine.  She knows how hard he tries to impress her and yet she always forgets to credit him... on purpose. What is her problem?

In 'The Secrets of the Guardian Strike Sword' she forgve Ace when he gave his sword to Deuce and actually comforts him with the knowledge that it wasn't his fault. However, in 'Acmegeddon' when the villains escape the prison (and it wasn't Duck's fault) she is so cold and unemotionless towards Duck, without even telling Duck to stop blaming himself (Duck was seriously blaming himself and worried about what would she think of him after that incident).

It would have been a nice change if she could've thanked him personally for saving her in 'Acmegeddon Part 2'. Couldn't she have been a little more softer to him?

My main irk with the show is that the team is in their uniforms too often. Aren't they uncomfortable? Even in most recreational moments, they're suited up. I may recall having seen them out of uniform a total of three times during off periods (not counting disguises used during missions).

This seems like an interesting discussion. We don't talk much about the little things in the show that we feel sometimes could be done better. And as much as i enjoy this show, i do feel there are lots of areas that could do with improvement.

I think the biggest area that i'd like to have seen done better are the episode plots. Some start off interesting enough, but then always end in an unsatisfying way. Just an example, the S2 finale eps. They started off interesting enough with "The Music Villain" and "The fall of Blanc", but then "In Search of Tweetums" didn't deliver a good conclusion for many of us. Ideally, i'd like to see a bit more depth and meaningful themes to the story lines.

My other occasional bother is how Duck and Ace always seem to hog most of the attention and spotlight, and i'm pretty sure it's mostly by virtue of their ancestry alone.

I'd like to see villains with a bit more depth and background built on them, rather than bad guys that do bad things just for the sake of being evil and providing the Loonatics with a punching bag. Massive comes to mind.

And as cool as the Loonatics themselves are, it'd be even cooler to see some character development on each of them! I want to see our heroes progressing psychologically and physically somehow. I want to see some of their personal struggles and how they rise above them in the end. As they are now, they just fit into stereotypical heroic roles, but aren't given the opportunity to progress and grow much into their own characters.

That's all i can think of now.

*tsk* Souless, "flattering" hardly matters. This is a kid's show, for goodness sake. XD

Angela, you are not a tool. I'll have you know that I giggle-snorted my way through your top 5 post. And I agree about the theme song. I mean seriously, what is that about?? I think whoever came up with that deserves to be dragged out into the street and shot.

Also, it irks me that there was pretty much NO character development whatsoever. Y'know it's funny that WB originally made a bid for the Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles cartoon, but Fox got there first. I always enjoyed that show because it actually had many serious moments, and the characters were able to rise above the stereotypes they'd been assigned to and become real. Then again, they've had a long history to draw from, while the Loonatics are a new invention (Looney Tunes doesn't count - they're not the same thing). I've actually seen the character designs WB put forward for the turtles, and I shudder to think what might have been.
