I'm not against eating meat or drinking milk but animals need a happy healthy life and a painless death.
I try to always get organic milk but sometimes I really find hard to find organic meat and I'm pretty no Carl's Jr or Burger King place uses organic beef
I don't think I could ever become vegan, but I am a vegetarian. If the laws of making animals unconcious before boiling or killing them were more enforced, and downed animals were taken into proper care, then I wouldn't mind the thought of eating animals as much. But the way animals are treated now: five to six hens put into five-by-five battery cages with their beaks cut off (that's like cutting off bone, and the birds are concious while they cut off the beaks), placing day-old cows in cages where they can't walk turn lie down or sit for months, or cruelly mistreating animals on their way to slaughter. All of these treatments lead to physical and phsycological problems until they are taken to slauther.
I'm part of an orginization to stop factory farming; a group that supports Farm Sanctuary. I've adopted a turkey from this organization, and every once in a while we go to this farm and visit the animals there. For anyone who wants to take a look:
Has anyone seen the film Peaceable Kingdom by Tribe of Heart? My dad took me to see that movie a few years ago and that's what brought all this to my attention.
That is just horrid! "Bestial" is a word too pleasant to describe that kind of inhumanity. I am a meat-eater, as that is my main source of protein, but I nevertheless condemn such monstrous practices like that which we are discussing.
Sadly, I`m not in a position where I can directly aid Farm Sanctuary, but I sent a link to the site to my mother. Know that you guys have my full support!
Wow. I have never seen that video before, but it was powerful. Simply powerful. But after watching it, I think you should put a warning on the post just so younger kids don't stumble across this video and watch some of those grotesque scenes (bleedings and such). Have you seen "The Meatrix?" I've heard it's supposed to be a really good movie, but I haven't found it anywhere except for the farm fanctuary gift shop, and I only go there about once a year. And I haven't been able to visit my turkey since September of 2006......... I just love going to farm sanctuary. It's not only a really beautiful and peaceful place, but you always learn something new or meet an amazing animal with an amazing story everytime you go. Has anyone else been there (either the New York or California shelter)?
