Hmmmm, I personly prefer Star Trek. I like how, when it was new, the things they had where told be inposible to ever have, and yet today we have thing so similer its un cany.
Star Wars is good to. I love Choobaka(I don't know if thats how you spell it)
Personally I find both pretty much equal. Both are good as scifi epics and dramas and have rich universes and stories to tell.
Star Wars is good with movies and long drawn out arcs and plots; Star Trek is good with television and rich character development and philosophical/social questions. Both are excellent with their technobabble, race histories and plethora of planets and fauna.
I'm a "Trekkie/Trekker" however I can enjoy Star Wars like the best of "Warsies" (is that the correct term?).
Which do you think is better? Personally Star Wars is better, due to the fact that it makes sence
Makes sense? How? Don't get me wrong, I love Star Wars (the original 3 anyway), but anything that spawned Jar Jar Binks isn't exactly the paragon of normalcy. Though what makes even less sense is that Stormtroopers are supposedly clones of Jango Fett (so they are de facto Boba Fett clones), but are such lousy shots. Or how about how the most powerful Empire in the galaxy is defeated by teddy bears?
As for Star Trek, well, it depends. You mean in general with all its incarnations (TOS, the animated series, Generations, DS9, Voyager, Enterprise)? Or are you just refering to just one series? I grew up watching Star Wars, but I was introduced to classic Trek (Shatner, Nimoy) as a teen. The stories are just great! And there is much to be said about the social commentary of the time, where they showed stories dealing with racism, war, religion, the human condition. Considering that Paramount gave the show a budget of about 0, the crew did a fantastic job.
Both Wars and Trek have a special place in my heart, but if I had to choose I'd give the edge to the original Trek and TAS. Despite the cheesy effects (if those bother you, see the remastered versions), the stories and messages are a little more mature and philosophical imho. Plus, they have transporters! But Star Wars definitely wins over anything after Generations.
Peace and long life!
