Tbh that scene pisses me off, since all 5 of them were really unnecessarily mean to Rev (as an attempt by the writers for comedic effect). He's not their lackey. D:<
The whole "grr keep peddling!" thing might have been amusing of the character peddling in question had been a total jerk or something on the mission, and the extra work was a form of punishment. But what in smeg did Rev do? In fact, he was kind of the hero of the day in that particularly episode, if I recall correctly. I can't exactly remember what he did but it had something to do with a big red button. Anyway, he deserved congratulations, not unwarranted labor.
I should note that I would have been equally as angry if it was another character in a similar position as that, not just Rev. I mean, if, say, Lexi was put in the same place, it would have been considered abusive, not funny. It doesn't cut both ways.
Sorry to derail this thread with needless agitation on my part, but that was the one thing ever on the show that made me, like, really mad.
I know what you mean, Dragon Wing. But I s'pose... when LU was made, the writers had a younger audience in mind. Considering such, they were just going for a comedic effect and didn't intend on people thinking deeper into it than that.
To me, it's just light-hearted torture of my favorite character. I agree with you that in a more serious aspect, it could be seen as some sort of punishment. But at the same time... Rev loves running. And he's fast. Not to mention that he's hyper. Somehow I don't think he'd enjoy just lying around doing nothing.
It all depends on how you look at it, I guess. Like in the first episode when Tech requested Ace unfreeze the pizza. It's the same kind of thing, to me. It /could/ be seen as degrading and such, but it's the same with humans daily... now whether you let people take advantage of you is another story.
I mean, last year I was editing my class's English essays for free. One person found out I was good and saw my grades, asked me to help them out. So I did. Then that led to another person which led to another until I was editing practically everyone's essays before they handed them in. I don't know, I see that as being Rev's kinda situation at the end of that episode. It /is/ just somewhat abusive in some aspects, but he's too nice to say no. -shrug-
Ugh, sorry about that rant, that was one of those instances where I get caught up in some moment and then am embarrassed by it later. It's even worse when I talk about politics. D:
You are completely right about all of those aspects. I guess my anger then just stemmed from the fact that Rev is kind of neglected by the writers (and thereby the rest of the team) in general. I suppose I don't like seeing him being taken advantaged of in one of his few spotlight moments.

Okay, well, to that I gotta say amen. xD I completely agree that he's neglected by the writers and constantly pushed to the side. He seems to have grown quite a fanbase, however. I'm glad for that. The fact that he's so awesome and yet ignored is one of the first things I noticed when I started watching LU. And what can I say? I have a soft-spot for sidekicks and secondary characters. ^ ^;
Not to cut in on Rye's and dragon wing's conv. I think it was little abussive of the others to put Rev in that kinda labor, isn't that a simulating room?? isn't Tech a super genious?? at the beginning of that episode when Duck was "training" nobody was pedaling so the room would work or when Mastermind had total control of the room she wasn't pedaling (although that would've been hillarious!! XD ) I think it was to make it funny but at the same time it doesn't make sense because of the beginning and the other parts of the episodes which the room was in use (this is just my opinion though )
If I remember right it was because the power was out at the end, so the simulator didn't work as it normally did. So Rev had to pedal to generate power. Although one might think that Tech with his SUPER GENIUS ways might have figured out a way to make it work besides making Rev work for n hours. :X
And yes, Rev DOES seem to get a lot of love from the fanbase. Arguably the 2nd most, next to Tech. Pretty much when I found that out I was glad that I wasn't the only one who saw Rev's awesomeness, which is a bit concealed by his left-behindness.
Yeah, Dragon Wing's right. At the end of the episode Rev said something along the lines of, "Tech, you said the power would come back in six to eight hours. I think it's been about six, but I lost count. Okay, I'll start counting again... one, two, three, four--"
Remember the thingy (I totally forgot the name of it) that Lexi, Slam, and Rev were sent to activate? The thing in the pool table that cut out the power and that's how they defeated Mastermind? That's why the simulation room wasn't working.
But yeah, Tech could've probably come up with something to fix it in five minutes or less if he had /really/ wanted to. Then again, we don't know the whole story. Perhaps Rev had originally volunteered to generate the power? -shrug- =3
Before I do that I oughta get better at actually FINISHING my stories. In fact, the only fan fic I've ever completed was October. I might start by actually wrapping up that Tech and Rev centered fic I started at least 100 years ago.
Actually I guess October was Tech and Rev centered too. Just in an obviously sadder way. Oops is my bias showing?
I have NEVER, and I do mean /never/, finished a chapter story. The farthest I got was eight chapters... then I deleted the fic. I'm itching to start more stories but I've got... -thinks- Let's see... one, two... five chapter stories to finish. D:
I think I might be able to manage long chapter stories over the summer when I'm off... but only then. Right now I am in high school but taking 4 college level courses, so time is extremely limited. But since I'm also a senior I never feel like doing any homework. But I must! AAHHHHHH!
But I digress. I have yet ANOTHER story involving Tech and Rev (god what is with me and those two) and, if I actually do write it, it would be looonggg.
I'm a high school senior too, but I'm homeschooled. Even still, I have no time to write anymore, it seems. I thought I'd have more time when I decided to be homeschooled this year, but I was oh so very, very wrong... I hate high school. X3
Tech and Rev are awesome. ^ ^; I'd love to just write and write about them... but I try to stick as much as possible to the actual show in chapter stories. Oneshots are another story. Tech and Rev ideas abound. =3
To be honest, if I were to continue writing LU fiction (which I probably will in the future), Tech and Rev would probably always remain at the very least the two prominent characters. I just feel like if I tried to follow the actual show I probably wouldn't end up finishing. Tech and Rev are the #1 reason I watch the show anyway.
I do try to include every character in the show too, though. It just feels empty and superficial without everyone in it.
Yeah, Tech and Rev are definitely what keeps me watching LU as well. =3 Mostly Rev. But I throw Tech into the mix, simply 'cause I love their friendship.
Yup, yup... well, that's one of the things I try hard to do... keep Tech and Rev important and active in the story, but at the same time without overshadowing the others in my biased love for them. xD In the end, I just try to give everyone a little of the spotlight here and there. Even with characters I'm not so fond of... like Duck. Slam is a little harder, 'cause in sticking with the show I stick with the fact that he doesn't really speak English and, well... he gets pushed to the side once more. It's difficult to keep everyone happy. X3
I still haven't written a full fledged fan fiction yet, as would be seen in, like, an episode. The only other fan fiction I started was "Tech and Rev's Night Out", and obviously the title kinda narrows down the field just a teensy bit. (Also it's not a slash fiction. :X)
I think I stopped writing that cause I wasn't happy with how chapter... 3? Turned out. I guess I could always tweak it a bit and keep on going.
Yeah, writing for characters I don't like is hard for me too. And of course, giving Slam decent spotlight is difficult. My personal least favorite 'Tic is Ace, but oddly enough he gets the 2nd most lines next to Rev and Tech usually. As for Duck, he's generally a jerk, yeah, but I think his saving grace is that he's a (mostly) funny jerk.

Personally, I think that Rev and Slam are the least looked at characters... Which is why, I suppose, they had their own centric episodes... Poor Tech didn't get a centric episode in S2, although he does ALWAYS play a prminant role in, like, every episode.

XD You know, Xtream, you're the only reason Duck gets a decent amount of spotlight in IAWT. I feel bad if I neglect the favorite characters of my friends. Hehe. Even so, I agree Duck /can/ sometimes be funny. Like the other day when my brother and my friend and I were sledding... My brother was saying he was gonna show me how he sled stomach-down, face-first on our old skim board (hey, that's what happens to the beach gear that gets moved from Florida to Alberta... XD). Anyways, he was like, "Observe!" He crashed into the snow about two feet away and he was like, "Don't observe anymore." Totally reminded me of the moment when Duck quacked himself into the ice in the first episode. And I laughed... even if no one knew why. xD
Yeah. D: Slam's lack of spotlight is somewhat understandable... but Rev just talks really fast! It's no big deal. When I first heard him, I couldn't help but laugh because I couldn't understand a single word. But now... it's caught on. I already have a problem with slurring and mumbling my words, but add the fact that I talk fast without even noticing it? My mom's always making me repeat stuff 'cause she doesn't understand me. XD
I know, I know. D: I NEED INSPIRATION. I watched my LU DVD like twice... it sparked something but not enough. I need the second DVD! ...I /did/ get forty bucks as one of my birthday presents. That settles it. I'm going to Chapters, pronto! I shall order it and be inspired and write and then /finally/ be proud that I actually finished a story for once and be /so/ proud that I'll start on the sequel which I'm quite excited about! ...That was a run-on sentence. My English teacher would mourn. XD
