Fanfiction and Platonic Friendship

This is not strictly about LU fanfiction but about fanfiction in general.

In the world of fanfiction there are many kinds of OCs.

Some are fan-made offspring to canon characters (some of these offspring can be produced by two canon characters or by a canon and an OC)

Some of these characters are villains or enimies (Plenty of LU writers have made origanal villains)

The ones that people seem to hate the most are you guessed it Mary Sues which are generly used to be love interests or if not that are just there to be perfect characters that everyone loves.

Not all OCs are Mary Sues but there are just so many of them that sometimes it's hard to tell.

Which brings me to a character that dosen't seem as common as the Mary Sue/OC love interst the elusive platonic friend OC.

It is my knowlage  that the vast majority of fanfic writer are female, am I right?

(Correct me if I'm wrong) So a lot of OCs be it Loonatics, Ninja Turtles, Yu Gi Oh or even  My Little Pony tend to be female and often a female OC is pared up with the author's favorite male character but rarely do we see male OCs being created  to be platonic friends to male characters.

Just thought I'd speak my mind, add any comment you want

I'm going to write a fanfiction with a platonic friendship now.

JUST CAUSE I CAN.

I can't really say I'm too big on OC's in general, at least in fan fiction. The vast majority (almost all) of what I write isn't fan fiction, just my own stuff, and it's just awkward for me to combine my characters with someone else's characters.

Those are some good points you put out Miss Fear.

And some points you pointed out are why I'm never too keen on OCs in stories.

Many of them I see are Mary-Sues and obviously, that's not good.

I put some of my OCs through this test: http://www.ponylandpress.com/ms-test.html

And fortunately, they have no signs of Mary-Sues in them.

Also I've read this article which fives some really good points on the matter. http://firefox.org/news/articles/651/1/The-Original-Mary-Sue-Litmus-Test/Page1.html

But I'm going off the tangent. I just don't like it when other people's OCs are forced upon the existing characters in fan-fics. That's why I never ever put any of my OCs in a permanent relationship with an existing character. But that's my personal opinion.

One of the things that helped me write better for male characters was my discovery of Homestar Runner.

Homestar Runner really showed me teenage males think (Well to an extent) More importently showed me how males bounce off each other in conversation
