Do you think free-abortion is right or wrong? State your arguements for either.

I put neutral. On one hand, it IS one's own choice, but on the other, why if the fetus is healthy? Like when they were attempting to clone humans, they kept killing the babies because they were defected (as you can imagine, I was highly upset). Depending on how severly, I'm either way.

Well if the women isnt ready/doesnt want the child, is it really too good she just gets stuck with it?
But I've just been told in the first trimester the fetus is really just a parasite and not so much a fetus.

I've never heard that before... but it DOES make sense because the heart and brain don't develop for a while, so it's not technically "alive" until then...

I'd like to see the person who voted against become accidently pregnant then vote against abortion when theyre stuck with a baby they never meant to have.

Free abortion gives freedom do to either. Its only non-free abortion that restricts if you look at it.

I used to not agree with abortion either, and I still don't wholeheartedly, but I do understand that it's a free country, so if I had to choose, I would pick "abortion". I wouldn't do it myself, but it's not my decision to make for other women. So by all means, gals, go on. Just don't involve me. (I try to remain open minded about things.)

I put Neutral.

I don't like the thought of a foetus being brought into the world then taken out again, but also If someone was...dare I say it....Raped and they got pregnant, would they really want to keep someone elses's kid, especially if they're still quite young?

I wouldn't.

I only think abortion is approprite early on in pregnancy, like a few weeks.  and only if you don't want and can't get rid of the baby.

I hate when people get an abortion just so that they can get rid of a baby after intercourse.  If you chose to do it-without contraceptive-go on the pill, or keep it.  That's what I say.

With me, I figure there are better options, like practicing safe sex or using contraceptives so that the possibility of conception is minimal. However, should a female get pregnant, my view differs on the reasons for the abortion.

If a female (Since not only women get pregnant nowadays) is sexually assaulted, and conceives, then I have no issue with them choosing to get rid of the foetus. After all, I can certainly understand that keeping the child might be a constant reminder, or simply be too much to bear.

I also understand choosing abortion should the baby have a serious or life-threatening defect, one which would kill it not long after birth. If that's the case, then there's little point carrying it through the entire pregnancy only to watch it die later.

However, I don't really see why one should use abortions as birth control, or to get rid of a child with a minor defect. A child with Down Syndrome can live a healthy, fulfilling life, yet some parents choose to abort these children. Then there are those who simply aren't willing to practice safe sex, and simply remove the foetus as a means of birth control. These are the circumstances where I draw the line; if you're simply being irresponsible or don't want to deal with a mildly impaired child... well, it's morally reprehensible.

I understand that sometimes these people are simply not ready for children, and I do understand that they may have conceived entirely by accident, even when practicing safe sex and using contraceptives. I'm actually an example of that - if the condom hadn't broken, I wouldn't exist. However, there are more options than abortion; you can give the child up for adoption, or give it to a couple experiencing infertility. It doesn't have to end with a vacuum or early induced labour.

That said, I am mostly pro-choice, although I do have my limits. [/longwindedspeech]
