We often see pairings in kids shows and cartoons, Bugs bunny and Lola, Mickey&Minnie mouse, etc.
They're always hetero sexual pairings, because well you dont put same-sex pairings in a kids show, you just dont. ''They dont know what it is, they find out about those kinds of things later.''
Well its probably about every 10th kid at least thats going to grow up to become homo or bi-sexual. ''Still, they discover this later in life.''
Now, being I'm bi-sexual myself, I've of course gathered a scattering of knowledge in this subject. And I've been in contact with a good handful of homo-sexuals.
Alot of them say they've fealt like that all their lives. Had crushes on kids their own sex in kindgergarden, etc. The same with alot of bi-sexuals.
Now the way our current soceity works, same-sex pairings in kids cartoons is a no way. I dont even think anyone should do that right now.
But its a fact there are kids that would probably like to see that. And as soceity moves on, I think it may very well become a reality.
So, do you think it would be acceptable sometime in the future that there would be same-sex pairings in kids cartoons? To kind of make it more fair for the kids who dont feel the same way.
It would depend on the current societal norms at the time. Obviously, homosexuality is generally a lot more accepted than it used to be. The fact that is still even an issue, though, is clearly an indication that has a long way to go before it's reach equal-status with every other kind of 'normal' relationship.
I agree that now would not be the best time to have that stuff on a Kid's show. However, there's been a general pattern of each succeeding generation being more and more accepting of differences as time moves forward. For example, interracial marriages are hardly considered weird nowadays in the Western world, or at least in America, where they once were thought atrocious.
At a time where gay marriage is not QUITE a norm but ALMOST a norm, I think that would be a good time to start having it on.
Whaddaya mean 'kids don't know about homosexuality'? I'm 11. I've known about homosexuality since I was 8 and sex since I was about 7.

I've been bitching about stuff like this for years.
1)Kids know everything that's going on nowadays. I've caught my nephew staring at my boobs, and as a matter of fact, one of my nieces casually reached up and *honk*. O_o
2)What's all this about trying to shield kids from this stuff? I mean, come on. My mother yelled every word in the dictionary at me and my sister, yet they can't say it in cartoons? I'd rather hear Brainy call someone a dumbass than the term be directed at me by my mother.
3)They caught 2 12 year olds in school- IN SCHOOL, now- having sex. Don't tell ME they don't know about sex. I'm up there with Frada.
The FCC needs to rewrite the rules, because Germany for example. I really don't know about the cartoons or even the shows, but they allow nudity in their commercials. They also allow kids to drink at 16, and in my opinion, the kids there are among the best behaved. Having been an anime freak, I know for a fact they allow cursing, nudity, and whatnot in their cartoons, and I'd say Japanese kids ARE the best behaved. (Then again, it's socially aceptable to whip your kids there- here, you're such a BAD parent.)
I'm going to stop there. IOW, yes, homosexuality in cartoons. (Quick note: There *was* a homo reference in a recent episode of Legion of Super Heroes- I'll spare the details, but Shrinking Violet called Ayla "cute". I found out they dated for a while in the comics, and that Vi is bisexual.)

I admit that the overwelming dipiction of Hetero in cartoons (particuly Disney) can give a hetro child the idea that male/female is the way it goes but I think when kids reach certain ages their minds can become more open to the possiblities.
Any reasonable curious straight child who has never heard of homosexuals has the capability to wonder about the possibilty of two males or two females being in love I know I thought about it when I was little.
I hope to one day create my own cartoon series about a team of teen super heroes among them is a gay male
that reminds me of some of the boys in my class plus in my sisters class shes in grade 4 some 9 and 10 year old boys talk about getting a sniper gun and killing peoplle when there older

Maybe in older kids shows? but then again... What is it with these stupid common sence ridden people!

I once wrote a story about a fairy tale prince who discovered he was bisexual, his father The king orders a wizard to turn him into an animal (Origanaly a frog but the wizard was out of frog spells so the poor boy gets turned into a fish insted) and the poor prince has to go on a journey to 'cure' him of his 'perverson' (i,e by finding a girl to kiss him and break the spell and take that girl home as a bride)
In the end the Prince learns that there is nothing wrong with him and what he really needs is a better father figure
That story was a big experiment for me I had never written for a character of different orientation before homo or bisexual and it was done to explore the nature GLBTcharacters and also to parody and make fun of Fairy Tales and Disney movies particuly old Disney movies like Snow White and Cinderella
I know Shrek 2 made a sort of 'gay/metrosexual' Prince Charming but I wanted to go against the flamboyant gay steriotype and insted potray a very shy and confused young man who has been oppressed by both his father and his culture
In older kids shows (or maybe teen shows) homosexuality would probably already be accepted. This generation (the one we're in) is a lot more accepting than ever previous generation. Hell, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy was a hit.
?OK? Anyway, I think Mistress of Fear's story sounds like a great teens story.

Angela: Yes the time is near, but its still there yet.
Heh, I sound just like how paranoid christians like to portray atheists. Evil immoral people trying to destroy the christian moral and turn the kids gay.
Mistress of fear: That sounds interesting, but its actuelly LGBT not GLBT, and the flamboyant gay steriotype isnt at all the bi-sexual steriotype. The bi-sexual steriotype is actuelly abit like what you've written, kind of shy and emoish.
Personally I loathe both steriotypes, but then again im just an old jackboot.
I had no idea what the steriotype for Bisexual people was I thought if there was a steriotype the closest thing was Dr. Frank N Furter from the Rocky Horror Picture Show but I guess that's just me being ignorant
Any way I wasen't trying to make a steriotype or counter steriotype I was mostly trying to create a fully relyzed individual
I always thought the bi-sexual steriotype WAS the flamboyant one. Then again... I've just encountered more flamboyant ones than shy ones.

Well there are definately alot of flamboyant bi-sexuals as well.
What I find irritating though is that the flamboyant steriotype is all that you see in ''gay culture'' because to be honest, they're attention whores like no ones business.
Probably the biggest reason I loathe that steriotype.
And (If I were'nt an atheist) I hope to God, if theres ever an officially homo-sexual cartoon character in western TV, its not a big flamboyant fairy.
ever watched the Simpsons? There are like a BILLOIN gay guys there. Smithers is gay and he is super shy.

I've already told you about my bisexul fairy tale Prince. (Who I've named Xerxes by the way) Now I will tell you about my first exclusivly homosexual character. Bob Buttz AKA Aqua (Aqua is his superhero name)
Bob is is the newest addition in a team of Superheros I call the manimals, A team of humans spliced with animal DNA to save planet Earth from invading aliens.
The reason I created Bob was that I always wanted the Manimal team to have and equal number of males and females. In the first story I wrote their were only four Manimals two boys, two girls. But when I added anouther girl to the team (And the only reason I did that was becuase she was Squirrel Boy's girlfriend) I knew I needed to add anouther male to balance the Yin/Yang as it were so Bob was born.
About Bob: I tried not to make him a typacal gay insted he acts more like a nerd/geek than steriotypical gay. He wears glasses, he's short and overweight and he enjoys activities like tinkering with machines and collecting comic books He is also the only non-mammal in the team having been spliced with catfish DNA
A few weeks ago at my little sister's high school My family and I went to a prefomance of Romeo and Juleiet and guess what? The part of Romeo was played by a lesbian!
So two girls kissed in a school play! If that isn't some kind of progress I don't know what is.
[I am getting annoyed about peoples' prejudice against homosexuals. I mean, so what? SHUT UP ABOUT IT.]
[My point is this; homosexuality is NOT A FREAKING DISEASE.]
[For one, it is not contagious. Sure, it can be a choice, and some are born with it, but it is not a contagious disease.]
[I honestly think it might be a good idea if they put a little homosexuality in cartoons. Maybe that way children can learn about it the RIGHT way instead of growing up with prejudice parents.]
[Oh, wait. I think they might have a cartoon like that on Nicktoons.]
I lurv meh some yaoi. *has nothing significant to add and is mauled by her conscience for it*
