Rants
Permalink

I am making a rant thread in here because, let's face it, we all need to rant once in a while. And since some rants (possibly the one I'm about to make) might conflict with people's views or even offend them, I thought it best to put it in the Controversy Area. And without further ado, let's move onward.

My topic of rantingness today might seem very odd, considering the forum we're on. But I have quite a bit of a mouthful to say about the show Loonatics Unleashed.

Today I watched an episode of LU on Daily Motion. It was the Fall of Blanc, I think. It had been six or seven months since I had actually watched the show, and considering that not only do a post on a fan forum, but am also writing a fan fiction about this show, it'd be best to keep up with it just a little. So I watched.

And, unfortunately, while I was watching, I started to remember why I hadn't watched it in about six or seven months.

Let me say, first of all, that I quite liked Season 1. The plots, even if they didn't spread through numerous episodes, were interesting enough and easy to follow. Each of the characters got a fairy (although I do emphasize fairly) equitable amount of airtime, and they all had good, funny lines from time to time, especially Duck. Basically, it was an enjoyable show then, and contained episodes that I could conceivably watch repeatedly from time to time.

Season 2, however, was a bit of a trainwreck in comparison. Yes, the episode I watched today was from Season 2. And it was quite obvious that it was, even if not for the differences of the show introductions.

Oh, and the SHOW introductions! Okay, Season 1's was... well, nothing particularly special, but it captured the essence of the show pretty well. Also, each of the Loonatics got an exactly equal amount of time during the opening theme, with each of their bios being shown for each respective characer. They should have kept with that.

Season 2's opening theme is horrible, in comparison. First of all that stupid song just reeks of "4kids" (even though they have nothing to do with this) and, frankly, gets on my nerves. I make sure I skip past it whenever I'm watching the show. And also, unlike the S1 opener, each character does NOT get equal representation. It's pretty much like this:

"Look, it's Ace! Oh my god, Ace! We all love Ace! He can do martial arts! And blast lasers out of his eyes and stuff! Oh man, he is so cool! No wonder he's the team leader! We all love Ace. Man, this whole show should be about Ace.

Oh, but don't forget Lexi! She's cool too; she is a GIRL, after all. Girl power! Gotta love girl power. And also, she's a bunny, like ACE is, so she must be cool.

Hey look, it's Duck! He's so goofy! Just a kooky slapstick, always getting into trouble and doing funny things! Laugh and a half, really! Oh, you Duck! You and your goofy ego!

Slam! He eats a LOT. Man, I can't believe how much he EATS. He just eats and eats and eats.

Tech, too, he's there! He is that cool, mysterious character we all love. He can come back from the dead and stuff with his cool powers.

Oh and there's that roadrunner guy too, he's fast.

But look at ACE! Swordfighting while eating a sandwich! Man, what a badass guy! I'd like a piece of that."

Yeah, I got off on a bit of a tangent there. But if I had never seen the show before, and that introduction was the only thing I've ever seen, that's the exact impression I'd get. Seriously, Season 1's opener should have been kept.

But anyway, back to the actual contents of Season 2.

Admittedly, characters like Rev and Slam never got an exact proportional amount of airtime in Season 1, but there wasn't that much character deprivation, at least to the point in which it bothered me.

This, however, became a big problem in Season 2. Except this time it was Rev and Tech who generally got the shaft. Slam, particuarly near the end of the season, got to go on missions a lot more. Well, good on him. The big guy needed a bigger piece in the action.

But they seemed to substitute Tech for Slam. Sure, Tech did get arguably the most attention during Season 1, but sometimes things work for a reason. Poor old Rev, meanwhile, who didn't get much attention in S1 anyway, almost seemed to be completely wiped off the map, for the most part, in S2. They seemed to have tried to make up for this with The Family Business, a Rev-centric episode, but they never did much more with him after that.

This, however, is actually not my biggest qualm with S2. It was the general plotlines. Some of the individual plots that only took place during one episode were okay, I guess. I admit to absolutely loving The Family Business. But towards the latter half of the season, they seemed to have tried to attempt this sort of epic, futuristic LOTR type of deal.

You know it. It involved musicians, and Zadavia's brother, and douchebag or whatever his name was, all involved in this scheme to take over Tweetums' (don't even get me STARTED on him) army or whatnot. I can't remember exactly how that all worked, probably because it wasn't memorable.

That whole deal really was a train wreck for me. It was as if the writers were trying to respond to a critique of their show being too simple by adding this huge, overtly-complicated plotline involving wormholes and planets and musicians and siblings and knights and old ladies and packets of milk and God knows what. Needless to say, it didn't work. It simply wasn't interesting enough, being so convoluted by attempts at plot depth. And the ending was, even so, boringly predictable.

All of this might have been tolerable enough if Tech and Rev, who in my opinion are by far the most interesting characters on the show, had any sort of significant part in it at all. Needless to say, they didn't. They pretty much just sat out of it at HQ the entire time, only getting screen time when the writers wanted to pull some sort of cheap rivalry gag. (This was ESPECIALLY evident in Apocalypso). That's all they really did, though, until the writer's realized they should be doing something productive. And even when those times came, it was not much. It was still the same old Ace, Lexi and Duck show that everyone knows and loves. Particularly emphasis on Duck, too; he seemed to get quite a handy amount of attention in S2. Good for Duckies, I guess.

Now, let's take an episode like The Comet Cometh. Now that is what the entire show should have been like throughout the show's entire run. Interesting plot, plenty of good action, lots of little funny moments, every character pretty much getting the same amount of airtime, and, perhaps best of all, interesting background information of the characters. Character depth is always a good thing. The Comet Cometh is definitely my favorite episode, for all of those reasons.

LU showed it had a lot of good potential in such episodes like The Comet Cometh. And for the most part, those episodes only appeared in Season 1. But, quite frankly, all of the fan fictions on this board are much, much better and interesting than the crap the writers came up with during S2. Should this show have a third season, it should take a bite from its roots, or at least make a good attempt to make all of the characters equal.

I do not say all of this out of nostalgia for Season 1, either; I discovered LU after Season 2 had pretty much already been wrapped up, so the chronological order in which they appeared makes no difference to me.

These flaws will not divert me from coming to this forum, or writing fan fiction; in fact, I am now more encouraged to write fan fiction in order to make an attempt to utilize all the good pontential LU has and make it into a decent story.

All views and opinions expressed above are soley those of Dragon Wing, AKA Angela. These views by no means reflect the views of the forums as a whole.

...jumping jehosephat, now thats a rant!

I would otherwise say what people find interesting and/or entertaining is subjective, but you already made it clear these are your opions only.

''All views and opinions expressed above are soley those of Dragon Wing, AKA Angela. These views by no means reflect the views of the forums as a whole.''

I for one liked alot of the episodes in season 2, just because I did. But, I do agree camera time was unfairly distributed and like you said, they inflated the characters trade marks way too much.

I did like some episodes in Season 2, some better than season 1 *coughfirsttowepisodescough*, but I agree that the character distribution was unfair. It did make those little moments when the characters actually showed up extra special, but it was quite a disappointment.
Great rant.

Wow... I think that's the long post you've ever made, excluding fan fiction. XD

My biggest problem with LU has always been the exclusion of Rev. I was fascinated by him from the first moment I heard him, even though it took me a while to catch on to what he was saying.

For Slam, it's understandable that he doesn't get as much screen time... it's hard to give a character a whole lot of screen time when they don't even really speak intelligibly. But even he got his own episode!

It's ridiculous that just because Rev talks fast, he's pushed to the side. Sure, it may take an episode or two to be able to understand him... but it's a hook. And the fact that his ancestor was pretty much only a filler character for LT does not mean anything for Rev. It's quite obvious that they favor the descendants of the more popular Looney Tunes...

I wasn't too impressed with the end of the second season either, however, I think they still have a chance to redeem themselves with a third season. In the event that they don't make a third season though, then I'll really have the problem with the way they've decided to end the show.

I think my debate-analyzing-whore post in Prostitution may have been a wee bit longer than this one, but yeah, this is still a longie. BUT! One time on another board I made a topic purely for the purposes of making a huuuugggeee post. It was 42 pages long in the word document. As a vantage point, my fan fic entries are usually 8-10 pages long in Word.

ANYWAY! None of that is the point of this.

Yeah, the big thing with the writer's definitely is that they favor the more popular Looney Tunes' descendants. However, they have said REPEATEDLY that LU is not The Looney Tunes (most people were afraid it was a re-design of the originals at first.) However, if they REALLY had wanted to emphasize that they are not the Looney Tunes, then they should gave the more minor characters more airtime. Just my little quib there.

Whenever I am upset that Rev doesn't get enough screentime (which is often, when I think about the show) I tell myself that it's lucky that Rev got a spot at all in the line up, given that the Roadrunner is definitely not one of the one more popular Looney Tunes. Sylvester, Tweety, Foghorn Leghorn, Tweety Bird are all more popular, and there's probably more on top of that. In fact, when I first saw the art designs for the show (back when everyone loved to hate it) I remember thinking "whoa, the roadrunner got a spot?" So there's that.

However this line of thinking only satisfies me for like 5 minutes.

42 pages long...? O O; Damn... xD

I'm pretty sure their original line of thinking when they decided to create Rev was simply that they could not efficiently put Tech in without putting his ancestor's rival.

Oh well... like I said, they still have a chance to redeem themselves. If there is a third season, I hope they take a hint and put more Rev in. =3

If they do decide to have a third season, I'd almost feel like finding out the writers' e-mails and writing to them and DEMANDING more Rev. I just wouldn't cause I know that'd never work. v0v

Well, if the Revvies start world domination with /that/ attitude... ;D
You never know. We could make a petition. Boycott. SOMETHING.
And, heck, if it didn't work, least we could say we tried... =3

Main things that made me drop it:

What Dragon_Wing said, and this:

1)It essentially DID become the Looney Tunes in S2- there were no mor original characters except Deuce, but he SUCKED. I'm not counting Bootes Belinda because he's an actual person.

My other points just left me. :/

I decided this belonged in the rant section, it was originally in the Vanessa Hudgins thread as part of the post:

I was raped when I was 11, and started drugs (bad crowd, I was exactly like the people I hate which is why I hate them) at the time I was 11-14, and just decided to quit. (Withdrawal symptoms SUCK MONKEY ASS. DO NOT DO DRUGS. YOU *WILL* REGRET IT.) I holed myself up in my room for *quite* some time. Anyhoo, I have no recollection of anything I did during that time, only that my grades sucked, my life sucked, and everything else sucked. (Still does, BTW.) This may be the reason my memory is so bad.

Back on track: Even after I quit, I still had sex up until I was 16 and constantly scared I was pregnant. However, my 16th year, I met (who I thought was) my soulmate, and purposely got pregnant by him. (I never carried to full term, at first because of the drugs, but now I'm worried I can't have kids.) However, as I stated, I straightened up after that, and I haven't done anything since.

I don't consider myself any less Gothic because of the circumstances- I was being verbally, emotionally, and mentally abused by my mother, sister, and grandmother; I was physically abusing myself by letting pretty much anyone with a winkie have sex with me, I didn't have a life (still don't), I was under so much stress from school, and home, until I didn't have room to think about what I was doing. (FTR, all of this was going on while my mom was at work.)

I'm still suspectable to drug abuse, as nerdy as this sounds, I nearly got hooked on allergy medication. (Dammit, that is some good **** for something so mild.) I still find myself wanting to get high again, but I can't because I think about that and regret it (and I haven't bought any to get off on).

All of the points above I agree with. And yes, sometimes when the holes aren't quite filled in the plots, that what inspires many fans to write or draw a story based on the episode. That reminds me of "The Rise of Heroes" that I wrote a long time ago. They never showed what happened immediately after the meteor crashed down onto the Earth. So I used that oppitunity to write about it.

There was something for me to rant about but I've calmed down now. So I can't rant about it unless it happens again.

Okay, ignored. Ouch. :/

Anyhoo, Season 1 opening: AWSSIM. S2: No. Bootes Belinda is just... not a good vocalist for this show. He sounded stupid half the time.

S1: YAY!
S2: O_o What the crap am I watching? This isn't LU! This is... I don't know!

My exact first reaction. And actually, 4KIDS! is WB's editor, and have been for a while. I cried when they took over FOX in the middle of Shaman King.

To reply to Doma: All of that 'effing sucks. =( One of my friends also got raped when they were young (when they were 5 years old) but that is not something I can relate to personally, I admit.

I've also been there before with the drug use (marijuana) when I was 14/15, after my grandmother (who I actually got along with regularly) died. My only two friends at the time eventually got me to stop it, thankfully. Well, actually the drugs started with alcohol, but then I wanted to try something different besides drunkenness. I think I've outgrown any urges I once had, thankfully. I'll occasionally have a drink with friends, but that's it.

I never was part of anything sexual, though. That I can't relate to as much.

Okay. Here's something for me to rant about the way the laws in the UK work.

I was in a shop yesterday just reading newspaper titles when I saw one which said that a father has a criminal record just for his wheelie bin lid being four inches a jar. In the report, it said that police had said that if he didn't pay the £150 fine, he'd get arrested for it. Plus, they'd get him into deeper trouble if he didn't pay some money for the victim! There was no friggin' victim apart from the poor father!

WTF IS WRONG WITH THIS LAW!?!?!? The murderers and terrorists seem to have it easy being allowed to stay in the nice home comfort of their prison cells, while someone completely innocent is being punished harder than the real criminals!

And I should know. I too have a criminal record until I turn either 18 or 21 just for defending myself and my friends from some evil son of some bitches bullies trying to terrorize our lives! I just pushed one of the girls away saying enough is enough. The next morning I find out from some teacher that she had broken her effin' shoulder! And then sometime later, we all found out that she was indeed faking it!

But still, I had to be mugg shot, finger printed, saliva wadded and much more for defending myself and my friends from being attacked while the bullies got away SCOTT FREE! And let me tell you, I was friggin' scared! I was so scared I cried my eyes out! I could never have gotten over it no way!

That is why no matter what the government says about "not fighting back" and "give the criminal what he wants so that you can stay alive" I say BULLS**T TO THAT MR PRIME MINISTER! YOU DON'T HAVE TO WALK IN THE STREETS IN THE DARK AMONGST PEOPLE WHO COULD MUGG AND KILL YOU! YOU GET TO RIDE IN YOUR FRICKIN' BULLET PROOF CAR SAFE IN THE FRICKIN' KNOWLEDGE THAT YOU WON'T GET HURT WHILE MANY OTHER PEOPLE COULD BE DEAD RIGHT NOW BECAUSE OF THE STATE THIS COUNTRY IS IN! I WILL FIGHT BACK IF A CRIMINAL ATTACKS ME! I WILL KICK HIM WHERE IT HURTS! I DON'T CARE WHETHER THEY DIE OR NOT! AS LONG AS I'M ALIVE AND I KNOW I'M NO LONGER IN DANGER, I WILL BE SATISFIED!

I'm just quite suprised I haven't been taken to some funny home yet.

God I hate this country. Yes, I DO plan to leave it, thank you very much. What do you think the German is for?

z_s: Sorry, but i didn't watch the videos. Too lazy to type? I know the feeling. I'd rant more on the above subject, but I don't feel like it today.

The criminal justice system can be shoddy pretty much anywhere you go.

I have to admit, after reading The Kite Runner, which describes living conditions in Afghanistan, and The Poisonwood Bible, which describes living conditions in The Congo, I don't much complain about life in America anymore. I never really did, though.

Sure, my autistic/retarded brother probably won't get all the help he really needs in America for the rest of his life. But if he lived in any of those countries, he'd probably be killed the moment they found out he was disabled.

Yes, in those countries. However, in Sweden, he could get his help for virtually free- they pay 50% taxes and get the stuff we complain about. But NOOOO. American's aren't goin to pay taxes! Hell, I will. I'll gladly pay 36% tax, if it means free education and health care. They better give me 36% raise, though, so I'll be able to pay it.

That's why should I go to America, that I get an insurance number before I go. Otherwise if I get injured, I won't be able to get the help I need.

If I moved to America it would be a sign the world is going to end.

People in Sweden, and other welfare states do pay very high taxes compared to Americans, but they get so many things for their money. When it comes to it, Americans actuelly pay just as much because they still have to pay for health insurance, schooling, and all the other stuff, just not through taxes.

AND, people in those welfare states do tend to be richer than Americans. The average Swede definitely has more money then the average American.

I know! Stupid Americans. Argh. So what if we started out back at square one? This wouldn't last too long due to the resulting boost in the economy. Then we'd be back to our former status of a nation people could look up to. Right now, we SUCK.

>_> Stupid Southerners. WHY DIDN'T WE SECEDE!!! DXDXDX

Rant, huh…
Ok *ahem*
*changes about 100000000 colors* I’M GOING TO SAY IT CAUSE I’M DONE HOLDING IT IN, WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO DO ANYTHING.
It’s burnt. IT’S ALL F****** BURNT. All of Greece, except some islands. All we have here is history, and then, here comes the arsonist and almost burns Olympia? And after that he goes away unpunished, just because he used to hang out with the minister?
What are people, insane? They are dashing down everything that Melina Merkuri had dreamed about, ‘Without history we’re a nothing’ she said ‘without culture we’re no one’ she said, then mister prime minister, I suggest you get your fat butt off your chair and go for a walk on the roads of the country you made sure you destroyed, see the people you made sure they became a no one.
You sending police to stop the students who are complaining because they don’t want petrol all over their seas, is your mind ABOVE your head?
And don’t let me get started about the priests.
They are calling homosexuals I don’t know what names, when there are priests who are RAPING CHILDREN?
AND PUH-LEASE BLESSING KALOMIRA FOR THE EUROVISION?????????
I don’t believe that blessings actually do something BUT IF THEY HAVE BLESSINGS FOR SALE THEN THEY’D BETTER GO AND BLESS THE STRIKERS.
Everything in here SUCKS because of the scamps of society who are calling themselves logical and call the REAL logical people scamps of society! And then they have the audacity to come on TV and say that ‘It’s really weird that the country is going TO HELL’ (HELL-O! EARTH TO IDIOTS!)
What I say is that it’s a real question that every single inhabitant of Greece hasn’t killed himself already to get rid of this miserable life which has no future.
And that’s the part when I finally calm down.

My crush is Greek, which is why I'll say this:

As much as I hate this country, I do realize there are countries worse off, but what I'm really sick of are these close minded patriots saying we're the best. Country. EVAR.

Um, no we're not. We are have our morals in the wrong places, we say one thing and do another, we refuse to take care of ourselves and wonder why our economy is in shambles, and other stuff too lazy to rant about.

Back to Greece: That's physically as bad as America is mentally. :/ No wonder the Angelakises left.

Off topic: DX I still want him.

Okay. From the beginning. BAD WORDS AHOY.

I finally got a job some weeks back, and I'm training. I'm almost done, Thursday's my last day of training. Here's my schedule/ stuff that happened:

Sunday: Had to work 12-2. Lights in kitchen fan went out, and I kept getting dizzy standing on a chair looking straight up, and Nanny's too old to be climbing like that. The girl that trained me obviously didn't care about anybody's job. They didn't have the store open for us to clock in (Yeah. We had to go to the store we were hired at to clock in, then go to the store we were working at[new not open] and work, return to previous store to clock out.), argh.

Monday: Off. Got woke up at 10:30, Mr. Taylor (My uncle in law's dad [grandpa in law?]) died. Argh. (Don't feel bad for me, I didn't know him.) Tried to get deli platter, but Nanny didn't have any money, bank was closed, had no gas in the car, platter would take an hour to be made (shortstaffed), and she thought she was too good for the check cashing policy (you can write check $20 over WITH PURCHASE). ******* manager said she should think about getting a debit card. I should have rammed his balls up his nose and told him to STFU.

Tuesday (today): Had to work 12-2. Only thing that went right was clocking in and working. It's 91 out here, and my grandma's almost 82. THat didn't mix. She was supposed to pick me up at two but got lost, so it was 3 before I got picked up. I called her 7 times (but she was out), the neighbors once (phone was off, I guess she was asleep), called my mom (who was sitting on her fat ass watching TV when she could have been picking me up, the fag) once. Forgot to go back to store and clock out, was 4 before I realized it. Dammit. Called 3 times, no one answered. Go back to store, do not collect $200. Clock out. Le'Var was teaching a class, that's why he didn't answer. Mike wasn't even THERE, that's why he didn't asnwer. Ashley wasn't there, I don't want to talk to that bitch anyways. Chelsea wasn't there, where the hell is everyone? ******* MANAGER WAS THERE, WHY DIDN'T HIS JACKASS ANSWER THE PHONE. Finally got clocked out and got to sit down. Someone (please be Josh) left me a voicemail on my old phone, and I have no minutes on that one, and don't know how to access voicemail from a landline. Neato Completo Yippie. XO

Wednesday: I have no idea.

Thurday: Work from 2-4. Have a visitation for Mr. Taylor at god knows when. Have a ****ing birthday party, happy birthday me from life, work and visit a dead old guy who you've never seen before in your life. Psychologist finally has an open spot for 1:00, and I have to ****ing WORK. (Takes 15 minutes to get to #202, seconds to clock in, 30 minutes to get to #201. An appointment can take an hour or longer. Do NOT pass go. Do NOT collect $200.) DAMMITDAMMITDAMMIT. No word yet.

Friday: Meeting at 4. Goddammit.

Saturday: Grand opening, more than likely work my ass off.

*bang head on desk* GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH
