It's quite simple, really.

Let's look at the title of this thread "Join the Ace army!"

Sound familiar?

In America, this sentiment is very familiar. The U.S. army wants to recruit young people CONSTANTLY. But the biggest problem they have is that the recruitees parents will not let them join! This is where the whole thing between Emily and Rye comes in. Emily is acting as the teenager that strives for independence, while Rye is the mother who, in Emily's eyes, hinders her for doing so. And by me climbing through the window, I am symbolizing the army in that I'm trying to get her to do something she presumably wants to do that her mother (Rye) disapproves of.

The U.S. army has tapped into this, of course. That's where everybody saying "we should sell this!" comes in. The army now purposely tries to convince parents that joining the army is A-OK, and they use lots of different methods to get this message across, which is where using artists such as Imogen Heap to sell the "opera" comes in. Yes? Yes.

Me saying that I'm from the internet to arrest you all symbolizes common disapproval of the army's methods of recruiting. Again, tying back into "Join The Ace Army!"

And then of course, Techfan's pic. It symbolizes the horrors of war. The jackolantern itself symbolizes the menacing face of the enemy. And the gopher inside, which Rye said looked like a rabbit with cut off ears (very important!) symbolizes the helpless victims in such a bloody war.

Again, all tying back into Joining an army.

See, I don’t understand this… I find Tech and Ace to have little character (which might be one of the reasons why I left the Techies). They both have great attributes… Too many great attributes… It makes me think that Duck’s so opposite with his numerous bad attributes simply to balance them out…

I mean, Ace is the ultimate leader… How can you possibly top that? He’s charming, he’s witty, he’s courageous, he’s loyal, he’s strong, he’s skilful… Many pros, yes… But where are the cons to balance him out? He’s naïve. Just a liiiiiiitle too trusting… That’s not very balancful (hah! Just made a new word XD ).

Tech has more flaws than Ace, but it has been discussed before on these forums whether or not he could also be considered a (dun dun dunnnnn) Gary-Stu… Let’s look at his pros then. He’s gorgeous, he’s gorgeous, he’s gorgeous, he has a gorgeous voice, he’s gorgeously courageous and takes hits for the team, he’s a gorgeous super genius that can do practically everything, he’s gorgeous, he’s gorgeous, he’s smart and witty and provides a certain humour to the show that couldn’t come from anyone else and he’s gorgeous. Ok, many of those pros were “he’s gorgeous”… But… Even I as a Duckie can’t deny his rugged, handsome canine good-looks… ^^;;

But what about his cons? Well, he’s quite protective of his inventions (but see, I can understand this… If you sit down and work on a school project or an art project or a writing project for a really long time, pour your heart and guts into it just to make it perfect, become so immensely proud because you and only you managed to created such a piece, and then someone comes along and blows it up… You’d be upset too, methinks), he knows diddley about wormholes (but then again, who does???) and he doesn’t get out of the lab much… Oh! And he doesn’t like Rev’s rambling.

You see, those are a lot of good points about both characters… But not many bad points (although I do feel Tech is a bit more balanced out than Ace). I think this is where Duck fits into everything. He’s everyone’s cons rolled into one. He’s selfish, arrogant, self-centred-

Tech: So tell me… Why do you like him??

… I have a thing for overly arrogant characters and the comic relief… ^^;
