I don't know, I just kind of cringe when I see a little kid in a horror movie. Especially if it's something like Children of the Corn or The Omen (what's really bad is that in the 2006 remake, the kid didn't even know he was playing the part of the son of the Devil)...
I know the kids probably know what they're doing and that it's not real, but I still feel uncomfortable about it. I always felt that if horror movies were meant for adults only (you know, the whole PG-13 and R thing), then only adults should be in it.
I agree, I don't really think it's right for children to be in horror movies, however, in today's society I s'pose that's up to the parents... and it would seem that many parents of today see no wrong in having their children end up in a horror movie. All in the name of entertainment, fame, and wealth.
Being IN a horror movie is different to WATCHING a horror movie... This child that's actually acting will get to see how things are done firsthand... And not be fooled into believing that it's actually real. I dunno... If I were young and placed in a horror movie... I'd be like, "Oh... It's a machine... Well THAT'S not scary at all..."
I dunno... Just my opinion...

Dude! I still have to see The Shining in its entirety. Dx I feel so out of place posting here.
But yeah, I don't think that there's much of a problem with small kids in horror movies. Some things wouldn't be quite as creepy if it weren't a little kid doing/saying it, y'know?
Of course, they could always resort to other methods of frightening people. *coughfullfrontalgrannycough*
The scene I mentioned above was the only part of The Shining I saw. Needless to say, I was traumatized for a few months. XD
I guess the reason why they use this method is because kids are always portrayed as an image of innocence. And when that image is flipped into an image of darkness or horror, people find it frightnening cos that's not what they're used to.
Same with comedy. You take a stereotypical image of someone, say a lawyer who wears a suit, and always seem so serious on the job. Make them act in a way that they would never act and you get instant laughs.
I agree with Azumi and Emily. The kids are prolly professionaly actors, they know it's a movie and the can see that the "monsters" are just guys in costumes or robots or whatever.

I, like my friend Dani, support these pairings Tessidy, Sethidy, Calric, Seck, Ricy, Duri and Cassless (Sorta XD) And these which she doesn't, Frev, Lock, Lexarchis and Frob!
She says that if young children are in horror films, they probably don't act ith the rest of the cast, and ae probably put n fornt of a green screen so that they don't see anything when they act that might scare them.
You could say he same thing about comedys or other TV shows or films that have sexual references.
In 'Meet The Fockers' the little baby says Ass-Hole after hearing one of the characters (I forgot his name...) say it. You could say alot about that too. 'Who in their right mind would let their young son (Of about 2-3) say a swear-word, especially when they don't know what it means.
I guess it's all down to the parents/guardians. As someone here already said: It's probably down to the parets wanting fame or fortune X\

young children in horror movies, yea it can mess someone up pretty bad. TRUE STORY: If u ever saw the the first 2 child's play movies, the kid that played Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) was scarred for life. I know this because He grew up in NJ where I live and went to the local high school here (which is an EVIL place) and the kids there acctually tesed him about the child's play movies he did, which made his life worse because he didnt even like talking about it. My sister told me all this because she went to the high school around the time he did.
However I dont think that they should fully take children out of horror movies, just make sure they choose kids in an old enough range to understand the movie is FAKE and will be able to grow up happy and healthy.
