I just saw the new season today guys, it had a new them song, showing the new characters. It also revealed that Ace's sword is of Frelangian origin, and once belonged to a great warrior. We also get to know Ophiuchius Sam, who is just as dumb and long-winded as his ancestor. As Bugs would say "What a maroon". It also introduces Deuce, who was once a Frelangian general, but turned on everyone to conquer the universe. Something tells me we are in for some comdeic twists this season.
Thanks for the info StellaMagic Did the theme song have different music? Did the animation for the opening show scenes of future episodes? Did anything else interesting happen? Sorry I have alot of questions(can't see season 2 until later in the year)

The theme song did have different music. Yes, it introduced what characters will be on. We find out that any Frelangian besides Zadavia may come through the portal.

The theme song did indeed have different music and animation. The animation looks wonderful, but the song made me think "What the HELL was that?" I saw the Marvin Martian ancestor, and he is non-humanized, so you can breath a sigh of relif, Martiangirl.
Let's see, interesting stuff....Zadavia leaves out important details in her stories, (The Freling people have a hard time being truthful, don't they?) Ace really likes ice cream, and the 'Tics suddenly don't have blue shading on their suits; the animators are now using grey-against-black. (Which looks really good, by the way. It makes their expressions more naturalistic.) Come to think of it, the animation as a whole looks way better. I think the writing's better quality too. Did the show get more budget in-between seasons?
*SPOILERS*
Friendship and trust seems to be a theme for this ep. You'll notice that there are several parallels in Ace and Deus' (short-lived) friendship and Ace and Duck's friendship.
-Ace and Deus seem to get along extremely well when they first meet, even though they barely know eachother.
-Ace and Duck have their differences, but they've been fighting crime together for about a year. (They isn't any good chance that those two were friends right away.) They apparently know each other very well.
-Dues plans to betray Ace to get his sword.
-Duck overhears plan and strongly resolves to tell Ace to prevent this. He winds up being too late, but I think this shows that even if Duck envies Ace's position as leader, he's intensely loyal to him. At least, that's my interpretation.
So in a nutshell-Ace and Deus seem to become fast friends, but they fall apart later because Deus betrayed him. Duck and Ace seem to hardly get along must of the time, but they've been through thick and thin and high and low together.
I think we also got some insight into the Duck/Zadavia conflict. In other words, why she treats him like dirt. Ace says in one scene "Everyone deserves a sound chance. You should know that better than anybody." (or something along those lines. I might need to re-watch the episode on the tape I recorded it on.) If I were more cynical, I'd dismiss this line as Ace ragging on Duck for messing up so often. But yet, he sounded far more serious than normal when saying it. This wasn't your everyday Razz-on-Duck session. Just what did Duck do to warrant Ace to say that in such a tone of voice? Is it the same thing that makes everyone a little hard on him? Is it the same thing that makes Zadavia STILL not fully trust and respect him?
Something tells me Duck isn't just the picked-on egomaniac of the team; it sounds like he did something to kind of deserve it. And whatever Duck did, Ace was apparently the first one to forgive him, and give him a secound chance.
Zadavia also struck me this episode. I realized that Zadavia tells the truth, but she has trouble telling the whole truth. This little quirk of hers has manisfested itself before; do you think the events in Acmegeddon could have been prevented if Zadavia told them her story in the first place so they'd have time to prepare? This episode pretty much convinced me that Zadavia's a little screwed up. And Ace doesn't seem to have figured this out, even after what happened. Yeesh. Way too trusting, much? If I were him, I'd be really upset at Zadavia, and think twice about taking her word for word. I can imagine this happening:
Ace: Hmmm. Anna is here, and she has a large brick in her hand.
Anna:(carrying a brick.)
Ace: Let's see...I know she's hit other people on the head with bricks before. But she looks friendly enough right now. She's smiling at me and all. Maybe she won't hit ME on the head with a brick. Everyone deserves a secound chance, right?
Anna:(tries to hid brick) Hi Ace! You look well today! Working or hardly working?
Ace: (turns to audience) See? She's seems nice right now! I bet you she won't hit me with that....
Anna:(throws the brick at Ace's head, and when he's down, steals all of his money, kicks him very hard on the ribs, and runs away.)
Ace: (gets up) I can't believe it! She hit me with a brick! And stole my money!
Anna: (turns to audience) Boy ain't that bright, huh?
Okay, a gross oversimplification of what happened in Secrets of the Guardian Strike Sword, but I think it's funny.
And I like this quote: "I don't have friends. I only have victims."
Boy, I bet Ace loved hearing that.
The plot thickens....

Eh? Why? I was being mercilessly cruel to a character that also I like. When was that a positve trait? Wouldn't that make you worry about what I'd do to mock characters I DON'T like?
Oh, Cali's review of this episode is up! Hmmm...she liked it. Nice. I also spelt Deuce's name wrong. Crap.

Thanks for the description of the new ep Anna! So you think the writing may have improved more from the 1st season? But the theme song music sucks? And Frelengians are going to feature more in this season? And Zadavia is witholding info from the Loonatics? What was their reaction to that? Is Zadavia back to communicating with the Loonatics via a hologram or screens now? Or is she at their HQs? -- Edited by Black Oracle at 19:32, 2006-09-23

You're welcome! I was happy to!
Yes, I definately believe the writing's gotten a lot better. I noticed the lack of puns, the more sharply written dialouge, and tighter pacing. I've got to double-check who wrote this episode. Let's hope it stays that way.
The theme music...I didn't know what to think. It's like they spent all of the budget for the theme on the animation (which looks fantastic.) rather than good song writers or singers. At least I have the mute button.
Yes, I think the Frelingians are going to be featured more. You can't just introduce a plot point and then forget it exists. Not cool.
Zadavia witholding information? I think so. That's why I don't really trust everything she says, unlike Ace. (hint hint) It's a bit soon to tell what the 'Tics will do. I believe that there's a whole lot she's not telling us, aside from what Ace's sword can do. She also appears to them in person now. I guess she's living with them now.

Okay, I'll see if I can contact Coldbloods. I posted up a fairly long recap with more details of the episode, since Harukuro asked. There's a spoiler warning for anyone else who didn't watch it. I liked your mentioning of Ace and Duck's conversation, Anna, so I put a small (clue?) icon next to it in the summary.
Yeah, I think the Frelengians are going to show up more. Anyone notice that guy next to Optimatus in the flashback? Zadavia now already has two of her people out for her blood.
Glad to see Marvin is still the same old Martian I love, more or less.
In the opening, paused toward the end and noticed a couple of more characters. It was really fast and brief, so you may have missed them. Besides Sylvester and Gossamer, among other potential villains are some human with long black and white striped hair (humanized Pepe?), and others who looked like Elmer, Rocky (saw his hat) and Mugsy.

^_^ Well, I couldn't just ignore it, could I? You know how a lot of people think that next week's ep, Creep in the Deep, is going to be a Duck episode? Maybe that plot point could be elaborated in that ep. I like this idea, because just letting such a perfect chance for character development slip would be a crime.
Another conversation might hint at what's to come in this season. Remember this?
Deuce:No big deal. You might say I have a way of being in the wrong place at the right time.
Lexi: (smiling) Sounds like you and Ace have a lot in common.
Now just what does she mean by that? Some clue as to how she and Ace met?
Okay, being serious again. I also like how this episode fleshed out Ace a bit. This has been the most character-driven episode yet. Ace's (precieved) friendship with Deuce was the emotional back bone of the story, and it gave the episode direction that season 1 episodes tended to lack.
My favorite part is when Deuce's shield breaks when Sam is shooting at him, and he begs for Ace's sword to defend himself. That close up to Ace's face, panicked and concerned, spelt out his feelings wonderfully. And that lost, "I don't understand" look he gave Deuce when he did threw his sword to him? So right.
Martiangirl wrote: I really didn't care for Dr. Dare. Wasn't that magic piece of jade destroyed? So how would he make more rock monsters?
I would like to see Mallory again, definitely Optimatus and Deuce (duo anyone), and maybe Sypher.
Well they can always find another way to bring back Dr. Dare's rock monsters and reverse his current stone state (he was left in some park somewhere at the end of "Going Underground" wasn't he?). Nothing is out of the realms of possibility in cartoon shows! Though i agree i wasn't too big on Dr. Dare and would rather not see him take up another whole episode in season 2.
Maybe, someone else (someone much less annoying) studies about Dr. Dare and figures out a way to replicate the process scientifically or with another magic item.

Well I just saw this episode on YouTube and it was AWSOME! Sam is hilarious and the new art style makes them look more like the Loonatics are part of the scene and Zadabia in person looks like Samus Aran. I hope we find out more about Ace's sword.

I just watched the first loonatics episode from season 2 on Youtube. Wow, a few changes are very cool, Sam is funny as hell and Deuce is cool but soon happen to be an traitor. Ace is just cooler than ever, the sword will be very interesting. Its also good to see Zadavia as in person.
I've just seen this ep from youtube too. I liked it! Action and dynamic screen frames seem to have gone up a notch, the dialogue seems to be better written, and Ace makes a big blunder and Duck is not completely idiotic!
I had mixed feelings about the opening sequence theme. Part of me thought it was kinda catchy actually, but another part of me thought it just didn't seem to suit the show. I liked the visuals tho'! Although, i thought Ace and his sword were a wee bit too prominent and Rev wasn't showcased as much as the others in it.
I noticed some reusing of old season 1 scene clips throughout the ep, and i'm hoping that doesn't become too frequent an occurence in future eps.
I thought Deuce was a well portrayed character, but he seemed a bit too thin and young to be a Frelengian army general to me. Still, he was an interesting character to watch.
And is it just me, or has Sam's moustache grown even longer now?! He was a funny lil' villain!
From what i've seen in this ep, i'm guessing that alot of season 2's eps will focus around the Loonatics travelling through that interdimensional warp hole into new worlds and different times.
I hope future eps will continue to be as well-written, well-plotted and visually-catching as this ep was!

I didn't notice that. Could you point out some specific seasn and where they were taken from?
It was taken from "Loonatics on ice", where Ace was kicking Gunnar from sight. The same rehashed scene where used in the secrets of the guardian sword, right before Ace jumping down from the train. Another rehashed scene were also used from "loonatics on ice" and "Acmegeddon 2" where two innocent dudes pointing out and a familiar scene from the bike scene.
What Zadavia said above! Yeah one or two scenes out of Loonatics on Ice, like the civilians pointing and looking upward in fright when the interdimensional train first appeared and when Ace was on the train and jumping down to face Deuce (before the final fight with him).
I'm also thinking that Ace's sword now is gonna have life of its own somehow.
Jungle Book, Sword in the Stone, Robin Hood, Snow White and others. I think they did it to save on money at the time. But if you ever watch them back to back, you'll notice a lot of similarity in scenes. Some scenes are even reused in the same movie.

Remember those old Filmation cartoons from 80`s? Like He-man, Bravestarr, Ghostbusters, She-ra. Man, they used to rehash almost every same scene in smallest corner possible.
Oh yeah, I remember. Kinda sad how certain cartoons 40 years prior than that actually had a lot more effort and better quality than later ones. Superfriends, Scooby Doo (60s and 70s I believe) were some of the worse offenders in my view, concerning reused animation. Were animation studios going through a budget crisis that entire time? I remember even WB cartoons slipping dramatically in terms of quality quality in the 60s, and reusing old animation in "A-Haunting We Will Go".

Ahh...good times, but seriously..how lame can that be anyway?
OMFG you guys won't believe what I just found out.
"Ophiuchus" is the 13th constellation in the Zodiac. We never hear about it because the signs are supposed to have Earth spending about the same amount of time in each one. It goes from Nov. 30- Dec. 17th. Yargh, these people use too many allusions we don't know about. i really don't understand linking Sam and Ophiuchus What do they have in common?
Ace and Deuce both mean leader, and they both were leaders. What does Sam have in common with the constellation?
I don't think they meant it as a "meaning" in the sense. The previous Sam's first name is Yosemite, which is a national park in Nevada. It's just a unique name they came up with that suggests the west. With Ophiuchus, that's another place (only space-y). They needed a first name that stood out, was long and was named after a place. So they chose the constellation. I doubt it was anything deeper than that.

Ya, I saw it this morning. I liked it. But, as a loyal Techie I must point out that Tech was only seen in the beginning of the episode! There was a lack of Tech even when they where talking to Zadavia. He like, completely dissapeared after he gave Ace that tracking thing. Ok, maybe I'm just starting to freak out, but, either way, I enjoyed that episode, and the fact that I know that season 2 is playing in Canada, now!
