I. HATE. ANTS.

Seriously, they`re vile little vermin. I`m all for respecting nature, but what about nature respecting you? Earlier today, my brother and I were getting ready to play Super Smash Bros. Melee for the GCN, when he opened the case and found a ton of ants everywhere inside! They were crawling on the manual, around the smallest corners of the case, and worst of all, all over the disk

I promptly began brushing them off with a paper towel (brushing them off my hands, and occasionally forearms as well) over the garbage can, but their invasion took it`s toll; the disk was marred beyond playability. It was covered in tiny smudges doubtlessly caused by the ants, it was scratched, it was useless. My brother tried loading the disk, and no good.

The case was dotted with tiny, powdery objects of some kind; I don`t know if it was dust, crumbs, eggs, or whatever crap it may have been, but the ants were involved with it. We had to clean out the case, removing the paper cover, separating the manual from the game, and soaking the case in water, subsequenbtly drying it, and resign ourselves to the fact the game was broken.

To make matters worse, up to 5-6 more games may have been hit by the same curse. One of the games, Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg (a game my brother is, or was, into more than me) may have survived, as it is not as badly marred as the rest. It appears Legend of Zelda Collector`s Edition may also be safe, as the game loaded properly at any rate, but who`s to say about the games themselves? (Of course, since the Wii has the virtual console feature, it`s not as devastating, but I`d rather not have to pay $28 to get the points to buy four games)

I`m not sure how the four other games are doing - Mario Party 4, Evolution Worlds, and a couple others - but I knwo they have the same smudges, and a few scratches. Hopefully, the smudges might be able to be removed by soem kind of disk cleaner, and hopefully we`ll be able to play the games again, but I`m not holding my breath.

Today begins the Vespan Vendetta. If I see an ant in the wild, outside world, I`ll gladly leave it alone, but if I see so much as one little six-legged freak inside my home, it`s going to be smashed flat into a micrometer-thick stain. I`ve shown kindness to an ant before, several times have I let some live, and I think I`ve even saved one from drowing once, but I`m not making the mistake of letting them return to their colony alive again.

If they repay my kindness by crawling all over my video games, then I don`t think I want their gratitude at all. I know I sound crazy, but right now I`m hopping mad at nature

On the bright side, most of our best games - including all our PS2 games - are safe from the evil that is the house ant. I was afraid for my Star Fox Adventures game, but then I remembered that`s one of the games I keep in my room, thus the ants couldn`t have possibly invaded those games. I count myself fortunate that one of my all-time favorite games is safe from the fate that befell a few others today.

Ugh! Ants! How I loathe them-- almost as much as butterflies.

For ants in the house, I recommend duct tape.

I offer my condolences for your loss. [pats you on the arm] Serious, SSBM is such an awesome game.

Butterflies, I don`t mind. We even took care of a wounded caterpillar until it died a day or two later. Now moths, those I might hate if they got into my clothes. But nothing is as vile as ants and roaches (which we were also plagued with temporasrily, though it appears they have since left the building. But you never know).

Ants are very annoying and they hurt when you are bitten...just try getting attacked by the "Ants in the Pants" Shen Gong Wu...

However, I know one thing that is worse than ants...

...Squirrels.

Butterflies, moths, I can't stand either or 'em. There's something about them that just stops me from rolling up a newspaper and ending it's bloody existence. So, instead, I end up screaming and running the other way and making an ass of myself. >_< But yeah, nothing is as bad as an ant or a roach (maybe spiders... I don't like them either)-- although, living in NYC, our roaches are really tough... heh, last week, during a math class, I saw a roach, and threw a text book on it... and when I lifted it, it crawled away, totally unscathed. o_o Damn cheeky little bugger.

I dislike ants, but spider's scare me the most.
In our basement, where I usually reside because of the GCN situated down there, there's always these huge ass spiders that come out of nowhere like 'LOLHI!' I nearly burst through the roof trying to run away from those guys DX

Enough that it couldn`t even load the fracking game. It`s not like the ants played tic-tac-to on it, but it does look like they were trying to draw a white-spotted cheetah on it.

Also, what`s with the fear of squirrels? They`re much more afraid of you than you are of them. And yeah, spiders are nasty, too. In fact, I think I have a mild case of arachnophobia.

Aww. . .I actually like ants. They're cute. ^_^ I love to watch them and let them crawl on me (I've only been bitten once). Did you know all the ants doing work are females? The males are all inside mating with the queen.

Sorry about your game. I suspect that someone inadvertantly left some sort of substance that they found appitizing (sugar or protein). Usually they send a scout and the scout lets the others know where there is food to be found. But only if they actually found something first. Or sometimes they might take up residence in your house when winter comes. Make sure that everything is clean with no food or water lying around (no matter how small the amount) and see if you can plug up small holes they can travel through. They'll probably leave when they discover that they can't get a decent meal in the place. Otheriwse, I heard cinnamon or corn starch works for some reason.

I feel for you Crossfire. I hope you and your brother never have to go throught that cringeful experience ever again! I've never really had ant problems myself, but my house does seem to have a bit of a spider infestation at times, and they're not the tiny types of spiders either! They're the ones with disgustingly long legs! Me and my sister scream whenever one of them comes close!

>.< I had ants in my room one time. It took me FOREVER to get them out. They didn't hurt anything (given Crossfire's experience, I consider myself lucky) but they were highly annoying to the X degree. And they got me yelled at by Nanny about how we keep such a filthy house, and that I could help out more by cleaning because Ma works so hard and is tired when she comes home.

>.< A) I go to school more days and for a longer total time than my mom works, B) We're not filthy, we just keep too much stuff that we don't need but for some reason can't bear to get rid of.

Spiders make me cry. About three weeks ago, Io was at my house, and there was a spider in Ma's room (unfortunately, where the computer is kept) and I tried everything to kill it. I sprayed it with liquid harispray (not aerosol hairspray, the pump spray kind), air freshener, I threw a huge ass dictionary on it, and it still lived. I finally took a hammer to the futher mocker and thought he was dead.

So I got two plates, used one plate to scoop him onto the other, covered him with the first plate, dammit if he doesn't jump out from between the plates and stand there staring at me. I screamed, ran out of the room crying like a two year old and nearly wet my pants. I later saw him crawling on the wall behind her bed. I was hoping he'd bite her and she'd die. Just being honest.

I decided as long as he stayed over there, and I stayed at the computer (which isn't far from where he was), I'd be okay.

If I'm not mistaken, it was the day Family Business aired. >.< -shudder- Spider...

Actually, my mom thinks the ants were trying to build a nest in our gamecube cases. I say it`ll be a cold day in Hieilili before that happens. The objects might`ve been eggs; if they were, well, they`re somewhere in the sewer now. They drove me crazy enough to ask my mother if California has a law against importing an aadvark and keeping it as a pet.

I'm not sure about a nest. Ants need to be in large spaces, in an environment that allows for a lot of movement and that is manipulative so they can make tunnels to expand (there are literally hundres in a single coloney). It's more likely that they are living in the walls, under the floors or in a colony outside that is near your house.

Of course if you can't keep an aardvark, there is always chocolate sauce. Seriously, people actually pay money to eat chocolate covered ants. And they're not cheap either. But they are tasty and rich in protein.

P.S. It's considered bad luck to kill a spider. Spiders kill the insects that do harm (flies, mosquitoes, moths) and apparenly they can help you with your spelling homework

(Bleh =\ I cannot sleep. I'm gonna be so bloody tired in the morning XD Bah)

Hm, y'know, an old friend of mine once said that the most loathesome thing about ants is you usually only see one first. Then your eyes unfocus and you realize you're looking a a giant army of them crawling all over. I've always found that to be true. I'm always like "Hey, an ant" then I smash it (to avoid invasion), then I look up and find there's a ton of them. Not fun.

I hate ants too. They're pretty common in California...OK, they're pretty common everywhere XD I've had an invasion in pretty much everywhere I've lived. In our current apartment they came around last summer, after I had made my lunch and set in on the tabel to eat and found our cupboards swimming in ants. I spent nearly two hours slaying them with vinegar (since we had no pesticide), inspecting all the food to see if they managed to get in them, and tossing the bad food and cleaning the cupboard shelves. They also swarmed over my CD cases lying by my computer corner. And I just know it's all going to happen this summer too =\

Of course, thankfully we don't get the bity kinds here. When I lived in the desert (horrid if you want to avoid ants, because they seem to want to escape the heat by taking up residence in your house), there were these big ants that loved to bite but were, thankfully, not fire ants. Luckily the big ones never came inside but I often went outside barefoot for a bit because it was hot (despite the scalding pavement) and once felt a pang when I stepped on something. I went inside, assuming it was a rock before literally feeling a blinding pain (I honestly couldn't see anything for several minutes), and eventually pulled a half-dead ant from the sole of my foot. Needless to say, I always wore something on my feet when I went out after that XD

Sorry 'bout your games, Crossfire =\ Even if it was months ago XD

I actually like roaches, but probably wouldn't be too keen on finding them in my house. As much as I like them, I know they carry disease...I also don't like things crawling on me. After finding ants in my house before I always twitch for hours and hours after convinced they're crawling all over me.

Mosquitos to suck too, and so do fleas (when my cat had fleas once they completely took over my house. However, when my dog got them they never left his body...odd). I once smashed a flea that leapt from my arm and out sprayed and tiny amount of blood that I was fairly certain was mine @.@ Worse, though, are ticks. Thankfully there are none here, but I lived in Florida for a bit and my dog was always covered in them. The rest of my family was too afraid so I was usually charged with picking them off. They're revolting and terrifying at the same time.
Oh, and to note about mosquitos - Whenever you see those huge, hulking mosquito-looking things (think as large as the palm of your hand or bigger), those aren't mosquitos, they're mosquito-eaters (and they do exactly as their name implies). Mosquitos are actually quite small so they can more stealthily bite you. Another fun fact - only pregnant female mosquitos will bite you. Mosquitos don't normally drink blood and, infact, the males cannot drink blood at all.

Know what's worse than all that, though? Flies. I hate flies. I hate them with a firey passion of passions. I hate to hunt tons of them every day in the desert, since our door was always open (with a screen, which apparently did no good) they always snuck in. I had a friend whose house, I swear, was the kingdom of flies. There were hundreds of them there. It freaked me our so much @.@ I hate those little things. UGH.

I ramble so much when I can't sleep XD

You only like roaches because you don't live in New York. We had to do the exact same thing in our house because of a roach infestation. We'd flip on the light and see dozens of them scampering to shelter. And you know that if you only see one that means hundred more in the walls. They'd be in the cuboards, the dishwasher (made you afraid to eat off of dishes without washing everything first), even in the bathroom. And those suckers can just keep coming back because they travel through the pipes and drains linked to the plumbing/sewer system, and they do not drown. Even if you vacuum seal all your food, they can still survive on water (any water. Feel free to use your imagination) as well as things in the garbage can, or even stuff you wouldn't even consider food. I wonder if your opinion would change if you poured out your morning cereal and found a dead roach floating among the flakes (happened to me)

I'd take ants over roaches anyday. At least with ants, you have a fighting chance if you seek and destroy the nest and kill the queen. To take out roaches, your only defense is a boot, some spray and fast reflexes. Unless you plan to flood the entire city plumbing system with Raid.

Yeah, it's possible that I like them simply because I've never had an investation of them. Although I know I'd hate for them to be in my house, I like the way roaches look...which I guess is weird XD But yeah, I concede that if my house was infested with them I would hate them. Because that's disgusting. In the desert we did have these beetles that would get into the cereal and die, the bad thing about that is that they looked quite like scorched pieces of grain and you may accidentally eat them. I've also inadvertantly eaten ants that were crawling on my food and also a bit of moldy bread and sour milk @.@ which I guess is why so anally examine my food before I eat it nowadays. Hm.

What's that phrase? Familiarity breeds contempt? I think that's quite true for insects. The more they bother you, the more you'll hate them. If you don't see them much, it's unlikely you'll come to hate them because they've never done anything to you.

Although...I'm a big fan of horror, macabre things. I love abandoned towns, buildings, dirty broken cities and all things involved in urban decay, such places tend to attract the roach so that might be why I like them so much.

Ants like my house. XD

The ants that come into my house are like kids who decide to do drugs too much. Peer pressure and drugs make them flop. XP

Like those poor ants that crawl into the basement.

And into the Pepsi.

And the sugar.

And near the fridge.

And the piano.

And the Christmas tree.

I have a serious case of arachnophobia. Spiders scare the crap out of me, especially when they all of a sudden out of thin air appear on you shoulder and are staring at you. O_0 *shudders*

Me: Don't make me tell them your fear.

Cassidy: *halo appears*

I know some black ants bite but, mostly the red ants do. This one day in the Philippines, while I was playing my suckish GameBoy Pocket,I felt a little sting on my left arm and before you know it,it was a "langgam"(translation: red ant). There are mostly red ants in the Philippines because when you spill something that is sugary or sweet, they start marching in and they eat it like it's some feast or something. They're really annoying.
