Riddler's Revenge: Like Tech and Mallory's relationship
Permalink

Watching this episode made me see what Tech and Mallory's relationship may have been like. The Riddler was in love with Julie. It may have been possible that Tech felt (and possibly still feels) the same for Mallory. Plus, it turned out Julie sabotage their project. THis stated that just because something seemed obvious doesn't mean it's exactly true. Kinda like how even though Tech saw Mallory's machine saying she'll absorb other people's minds, it doesn't mean she intended to. I wonder if the WB is sending us clues to the third season of Loonatics.

If there will be a 3rd season that is. *Crosses fingers.*

But who knows, maybe Tech and Mastermind's past relationship may have been as close but just as treacherous as Riddler's/Edward's and Julie's? Always a possibility. But i tend to think that "Menace of Mastermind" probably gave us the most important details of Tech and Mastermind's past: they were of a tutor-student relationship until Mastermind decided to go bad (wanting ultimate knowledge) and Tech had to shut her down, unintentionally creating the Mastermind that we now know who will most likely remain a bitter nemesis of his for a long time, maybe the rest of his life. So when you think about it really, one could say that Tech himself actually 'betrayed' his former pupil in turning against her, tho' for a justified reason, but still it was a betrayal on Tech's part. That's an interesting way to look at it.

Think about it. Two geniuses spending time in a lab together, admiring each other's talents? ;) Plus, The Riddler thought it was a business man like Gorman who sabotaged his machine. It turns out that Julie did it. Like I said in the Queen Athena post, just because something may seem obvious does not mean it is the true answer. Tech may think Mallory was going to absorb knowledge, but if that is so, why did Mallory show him the proof instead of covering it up so he wouldn't know? The screen showed Tech that she was going to absorb minds, but why would Mallory do this if it meant Tech will tell and warn the staff? Someone may have came into the lab before the presentation and did something to the machine to make it look like Mallory was going to hurt someone.

The theory of Mastermind being framed is just a fan speculation. Tho' i'm not saying that's impossible, but until i see further evidence of such a possibility in the show, i'm going to go with what i saw in "Menace of Mastermind" as being the reality of Tech's and Mastermind's past. If Mastermind's 'brain amplifier' (was that what it was called?) machine had indeed possessed no ill-intended function or programming on her part, you'd think Mastermind would have protested her innocence more, but she pretty much just looked furious at Tech for ruining her plans as she was being dragged away by the police.

Would you protest your innocence if you were suffering from a broken heart? Besides, Mallory said "You ruined my life's work!" She meant her machine, not her plan. Besides, before she was arrested, she looked at Tech as if she was wondering why she did it.

Well, I watched the episode, but I still don't see a parallel. Mallory and Tech don't seem to be much of an enigma. But whatever floats your boat.

I think that particular shot of Mastermind was when she was looking over toward the police that were approaching her, not at Tech.

Actually, she was looking at Tech. I remeber because she looked at and then she looked at the police in shock.

She did look at Tech, but then followed his direction of pointing toward the approaching police.

I don't know... I didn't see this Riddler's Revenge episode (We are talking about Batman here right? )

Other than the student-mentor relationship and the perhaps past romance, I don't really think that there's anything there between Tech and Mal.

If it was in her plans to absorb everyone's intelligence, then wouldn't that mean she intended too as well? Tech did see the blueprint thingies afterall... ;P

Those blueprints Tech saw were what I talked about. Why didn't Mallory covered them up? After Tech saw them, he would have told about her plans. Why did Mallory show blueprints like that to Tech?

Somehow i don't think Mastermind actually intended for Tech to discover the machine's true purpose. She probably presumed that Tech wouldn't have figured it out so quickly, but he did just in time to turn off the machine whilst in mid-activation.

Well we are unsure. I know another episode of the relationship between Tech and Mallory would be like marmite; You either want to know more or you just want to skip that subject, but that might give us significant points to discuss if it was more in depth.

I personally would not want to see the whole space of another full ep revolving around Tech and Mastermind's relationship (or lack of should i say?). That's already been done in "Menace of Mastermind", but they could briefly bring up a mention of the true nature of Tech's relationship with Mastermind in their past as part of another ep plot. But i don't think Mastermind should have another episode focused around her story.
