Actually. 'Gung hei fat choi' i think is the Cantonese new year greeting, in China it's pronounced 'Gung Xi fat choi' i believe. Or so my parents tell me.

And that Buddhist version of the origin of the Chinese new years is interesting Cali. I seem to recall a story that told of all the 12 animals taking part in a race to cross a river or something. The rat came first because he cleverly hitched a ride on the ox's back and jumped off as soon as they reached the other side of the river.

I get the strange impression that a story of a similar nature appeared on Sagwa: the Chinese Simese Cat.

Sagwa? I'm not familiar with that. Is it a TV show? Or a book?

Maybe it was both. XD

I remember it being a show on PBS. My whole family mocked it.

(flashback)
daddy: What kinda name is 'Sagwa'? I mean, naming your kid 'insane melon'?! -roffles-
Jessica: o_O
(/end flashback)

Okay, so my dad didn't 'roffle', but he was close to it.

*roffles* I remember my little sister watching Sagwa years ago... Pity 'cause 'Sagwa' in tagalog means ugly I'm not sure if it's spelled the same, but the pronounciation is pretty darn close  ^__^

Sagwa and her siblings have odd names. If I remember correctly -

Dongwa (sp?) - wintermelon

Seegwa (sp?) - watermelon

Sagwa - crazy melon

- thus, the reason for my parent's mocking of the show.

So it's a show. 'Crazy melon'? Interesting.

Mommy and daddy said it's pronounced 'so-gwa' or something, not 'sagwa'...

It still means 'crazy(melon)' though.
