I understand some schools don't teach multiplication but,at our school we do.Here are some strategies for the times tables:
2 times tables-double the number 3 times tables-double and add one more set 4 times tables-double and double again 5 times tables-count by 5's 6 times tables-double and double and double the number 7 times tables-double it three times and then add one more set 8 times tables-double the number 4 times
We might be soon moving into the higher numbers in times tables like 12 or...I don't know.Next thing is DIVISION!Of course you all should know division!It's like subtracting only using reverse mulitplication for example:18 divided by 9 equals 9.See what I mean?

Are there seriously schools who don't teach multiplication? oO; Figures I couldn't have gone to one of those schools... I hate multiplication. x3 Too bad I didn't know these kinds of tricks back in elementary.
You know Rye,I go to a school called Clifton School and there's one in Canada and another in New Zealand.It's true you know.I'm so lucky to have a teacher who teaches us tricks like using number lines,math strings,etc.We are working on division soon.I know some:
12 divided by 3 equals 4 30 divided by 5 equals 6 6 divided by 3 equals 2

I think my second grade teacher's songs are what made me memorize the times tables. :D They were awesome.
I developed a little system for the nines.
Take the number you're mulitplying by nine, then subtract one, and you get the first digit. Take the number again, and you subtract it from ten. You get the second digit.
so - 3 x 9 3 - 1 = 2 10 - 3 = 7 therefore 3 x 9 = 27
hold out your hands and for the number you are multiplying 9 by, count off fingers starting from the left hand. The number of fingers left is the answer (only works up to ten though).
Ex. 9 X 7
count to your 7th finger (right index finger, and hold it down) you'll be left with 6 (five fingers on left and thumb on right hand) and 3 (middle, ring, and pinky on right hand). So you have 6 and 3, so. 9 X 7= 63

Hey, that`s the same trick I use when multiplying nine. Thanks to what I dub the First-Digit Decremention rule, my answers to those kinds of mulitplications are almost instant!
