This morning, another forum I belong to, Spyro the Dragon Forums, was hit by a mass of spam topics and posts by...well, I shouldn`t mention the name, because if they run a search, they`ll find this site by searching for where I might be spreading word of their work. Let`s just say it has the letters s---p--- and rhymes with mootfelt.
I don`t know if they`d choose a different name here (most likely they would to evade recognition), but they can easily be distinguished by their habit of creating a dozen or so topics with redundant titles like "Spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam spam" or "Crossfire made me spam Crossfire made me spam Crossfire made me spam " (though they never blamed me, but considering I`ve reported them to an admin, I wouldn`t put it past them to try something like that later).
Fellow Mods, if you ever encounter anyone like this on this or any other forum, it is of dire, utmost urgency that you bust them/report them to the appropriate authorities immediately; you don`t want to know the kind of damage they could cause to a forum like this. What with Cal being as busy as she is, LUO would be hit even worse than the Spyro Forums were. So long as that troublemaker is roaming the internet, no average forum is safe.
With that being said, don`t worry too much unless and until the troublemaker arrives; the last thing we want to do is make a big fuss over them, as then we give them exactly what they wanted: attention.
Ok. At first I thoght you where joking Crossfire even thou you said it wasin't , But I jest cheked out ther site and...... OMG I hope they don't come hear!!!! I LOVE this site and I dont know where I'd go if eney thing hapened.
How tough is the activeboard security? If properly handled it could be stopped quickly without hassle. On the other hand it could be quite difficult if the tech isn't up to snuff. IP bans at the least could be helpful in this sort of situation.
At any rate this is speculation and perhaps it is a bit early to hit the panic button. I doubt bots would find a lone Loonatics board a good target, often they go for bigger fish or topics then what one would find here, at least typical bots anyways.
Oh my! That's sounds really scary! I don't know how anyone can spend their time doing pointless things like this that causes difficulty and misery to other people!

Ditto! This is pretty scary! I LOVE this site and it is my life!!!! I don't seem to belong anywhere else. If i have a rough day, all i wanna do is come here. Its like, coming here i can be myself, i can relax, forget about my troubles and just have fun. I'd miss it terriblely if something happened!
I think we're being a bit alarmist here. For the moment, there is no problem, and there's nothing to suggest there will be one in the future. There's no reason to inconvenience our members unnecessarily.

Agreed. As I said before, the chances of the spammer in question targetting this forum is highly unlikely. Unless the person either has a grudge against Crossfire or is extremely thorough in their attack strategy it's doubtful they'd head for here. Spammers, trolls, and whatnot often do their deeds for attention grabbing and the bigger and more well known the location, the better. I hate to say it but considering how small the LU fandom is, and how even smaller this forum is, I doubt we should start preparing for an all out siege.
Yeah, sorry if I alarmed you guys unnecessarily. I just want to make sure you`re all aware, so then if something like this actually does happen, I can`t blame myself for not trying to warn everyone. You guys are virtually the only friends I have, online or not, outside my mother and little brother (plus a few of the members on GameSpot and GameFAQS).
Around you guys, I can just crack whatever jokes I want and freely speak my mind, we`ve become that familiar. Even though I`ve never met any of you in real life, having cyber friends is better than nothing. And you guys are some of the best internet users I`ve ever seen on many levels (language, grammer, open-mindedness, etc...).
Well, we probably shouldn`t worry as Skifox and Silver Wolf have said. And if scum like that do show their work around here, you can bet I along with the other mods will nail their butt faster than you can say "go".

[A spammer...Hmm...I used to see those in many of the old forums I used to visit. The spamming kept getting so out of hand that the admins/mods had to delete the board.]
[But I know that it will not happen here, yet it is good to take precautions.]
[Do you really consider all of us (or most of us) your close friends, despite not knowing us in real life?]
[Are you really a moderator? If you are, I have a question...]
Kenny McCormick wrote:[Do you really consider all of us (or most of us) your close friends, despite not knowing us in real life?] The closest I have to close, yes. Some of you (like Black Oracle and Kaejae) are closer than others, but don`t take it personally. It`s merely a matter of familiarity. I consider you all good people.

Sure am, as decreed by Cal herself, along with all the responsibility of being a mod. Even though you`ve already asked me two, go ahead and shoot. I`m always willing to lend a helpful word.

I've had the distinct privilege of getting to meet some of my online friends iRL. Maybe you'll get the same opportunity some day. Not everyone puts the same stock in online friends as RL ones, but I've never seen why having a computer as a middle-man makes any difference.
Don't you mean faster than Rev can say go?

Ya I consider having cyber friends as good as having friends you see and talk with in person. Cause lots of times you can't feel confident around people but on here its like 'Let the good times roll!' and 'Speak your mind.'. You can totally relax and be yourself around cyber friends (not that i'm saying you cant around others). I dont have many friends that i see in person. And the ones I do have, hate my other friends for unknown reasons. It's all very confuzing. Thats why i like here.We are all friends to each other in some way or another.
And unless the spamming actually happens here, i'm not gunna worry about it too much anymore.
