Okay. Now that's scaring me. I hope the world doesn't end.
But then again someone said that the world would end on the 6th of June 2006. But it didn't. So hopefully, the same should happen on the 21st of December 2012.
Doomsday is predicted by the 'Doomsday Clock' It will go back or foward for different reasons, recently it has gone up, due to the Koreans Nuclear Bomb test, presence of other countries with Nuclear weapons, and also global warming. Thats what I found out

Nostradamus and so many people in history have said when and how the world will end. However, some of them have been proved wrong and the days they said the world will end, have come and gone and nothing happened.
I'm not saying that the world won't end cos it will, however it's impossiable for us humans to predict the actual date and time. So it not really worth the worry.

Wasn't it proven that the Mayan system was a bit off/untrustworthy? This sort of thing never really works since converting one calendar to fit another often leads to multiple errors.
Regardless, more than likely, this is just another "Oh no! The Earth will end in X days! Run for your lives!" prediction. Over the course of human history people have tried to make predictions about when the end comes; and everytime the masses buy into it, go nuts over it and then when the day comes become very disappointed that they got so sucked into it. Over the last 100 years we've had Nostradamus, the War of the Worlds radio play, Y2K, various "Great Wars" (both those grounded in fiction and reality), 9/11, June 6, 2006, etc.
I happen to recall a passage in the bible that says something like "we will not know when the day comes, it will come suddenly without warning, thus always be on your guard" or in layman's terms "live every day like it is your last." I'd say that's a better philosophy than constantly looking for the next "the End is nigh!" date.
At the very least don't go looking for a bunker to hide in just yet.

I'm with Kenny on this one. And Just because someone says the world will end doesn't mean you should stop living your life the way you want it. Live life to the fullest, be the best you can be, and always sound like a fortune cookie when you get the chance. XD
Dangit, Kari, you scared me! :P My chemistry teacher said something about this...but then he said, 'Phhhht, yeah right. Nothing's going to happen, they've said a lot of stuff like that (and been proven wrong).'. So yeah. Maybe the Mayans just got lazy and stopped writing extra dates down :P or maybe their culture was destroyed before they could write more? In any case...

I'm sorry but i find it really funny that the world ends the year Britain holds the olmpics. HE HE. I hope the world does not end but if it does then i had a good life. I hope the world only ends for human if it has to end cos the animals never predicted it the human race did.

Well, I`ve heard one possibiltiy of this outcome is that only 10% of the world`s people wil be left. I think that`s a different prophecy, but those who believe often put two and two together.
I know this will sound shocking, but...I don`t really fear 2012, to be honest.
I don't believe in doomsdays or the ends of the world. It was supposed to happen when we stepped into the 21st century, it was supposed to happen last year, yadda yadda yadda... For all we know, people just might be slapping together random dates and years and make it sound somewhat threathening (6.6.06, 12.12.12, etc).
If it happens, it happens, but if you convince yourself that it's going to happen at a certain date, you can bet you'll be touring the streets trying to save everyone and notify them about the approarching doomsday and you'll be carted to the nearest funny farm.
My science teacher mentioned this in class, don't think she believes it though...
Me, on the other hand, don't know what to think. Sure, the 'doomsday' could be near, but it also could be a while off, right? And it might be wrong, so, is there any reason why we should worry about it? If it comes, it comes. Just take it one day at a time, life your life happily and hope it all turns out for the best. At least, thats what my mom says about the whole thing.

You could in theory, if you had a huge nuclear arsenal at hand and decided to bomb every sqaure mile of the planet in 5 minutes, accurately predict when the world was going to end.

Techfan: You can try spiting me when you or anyone else has a huge nuclear arsenal at hand with the mindset to end the world, because I can almost guarantee you that anyone with that sort of "power" would have the mind to merely threaten to blow up the world only to rule it, certainly not to destroy it.

Key word there, though, in theory. I could just as easily say, in theory, the Mayans somehow were so in touch with the Earth that they knew for a fact that the word would end in 2012, and thus would have predicted the end of the world correctly. It'd be just as plausible, as it is highly unlikely any one country would ever proliferate to that extent in which they have enough arsenal to destory the entire planet, right down to the core.
Thus, it still stands to current reason that man cannot accurately predict the Earth's end with any definite certainty.
