Chapter 12

“Yes, Good night, Ma! Good night Pa!” Lexi said as she shut the bedroom door. She leaned on the door and sighed, “Well Ace, it seems that we have made it through day 2 of my parents’ stay.”

Ace chuckled from where he sat on the bed. He was wearing the yellow paints to his pajamas and had the shirt in his hands. Unlike Ace, Lexi was wearing her whole out fit, short sleeved and light blue, surprisingly. “So Lex, when do dey leave?”

“At the end of the week. Why? Do you not like them?” She said in a mocking anger.

“Na, you got dat one turned around. I don't t'ink dey like me.” Ace said putting on his shirt.

“Don't worry Ace.” Lexi said sitting next to him on the bed, “All they need to do is get to know you, and I'm sure they'll love you just as much as I do.”

Lexi thought on that for a moment, “Well, maybe not AS much as I do.”

At that moment, when she wasn't looking at him, Ace rapped his arms around her and nuzzled his face against her neck and shoulder, “I love you too Lexi...And I want to say t'anks. Not many goils would be as understanding as you about my family.”

The two bunnies sat there for a few moments,enjoying the feeling of having one another in their arms, and the warmth that came with it. Lexi fidgeted a bit, and Ace could tell something was making her uncomfortable.

He released her and looked at her, “Somethin' wrong, Lex?”

“It's my arm.”

“It actin' up again?”

“Ya.”

“Okay den. You stay here and I'll go get some medicine from Tech. Knowing him, he's probably still up dis late.” Ace kissed Lexi then headed out. When he came close to the end of the hallway that led to the kitchen, Ace stopped. He heard people talking.

“I don't trust that boy.”The voice registered to Ace as Lexi's father.

“Russ, I think your being a little quick to judge him.” It was Linda.

“Pa, Ma's right. I haven't seen Lexi so happy in such a long time.” That was Max.

“Have you two forgotten what happened the last time she got this close to a boy? She was devastated, and who knows what this Ace has already done to her.” Russ said.

“We remember, dad...I've heard her say she loves him. The way she acts...I believe that she really is in love with him.” Max replied.

“The question is: does he care for her? Let alone love her back?”Ace felt his stomach turn as he heard Russ say this.

'How could he ask dat.' Ace thought to himself, 'I love Lexi more den words are able to describe. I mean, we had risked our jobs, our lives, to be together. We stood up against our boss. But I have to remember dat dey don't know dis.'

“Well, Russ, I don't think our daughter would enjoy hearing us speak like this. I bid you two boys good night.” Linda said.

“I think I'll join you, hon. Good night, Max.”

“Good night Pa, Ma.”

Ace turned away and decided to take a different route to Tech's lab. He wasn't quite in the mood of confronting any of Lexi's family members, but after talking with Tech, receiving some medicine, and something to clean the wound with, Ace figured everyone had gone to bed and used the kitchen route. As he entered the kitchen he found Max still sitting at the table.

“Oh, hey, Ace.” Max said looking up.

“Hey, Max. Kinda up late, arn't ya?”Ace said sitting down.

“I could say the same about you.”

“Guess ya caught me. I was sent on a little mission.” Ace said a bit sarcastically.

Max looked at the contents in his hands, “Whatcha got there?”

“It's some pain-killers. Lex's wound was startin' to act up again, so I decided to get it from Tech.”

“Oh...So uh,” Max looked around, hesitant to voice whatever was on his mind, “...My sister obviously cares a great deal about you, Ace. I just want to know, as her older brother...is she wastin' her time?”

Ace stared at Max with a solid look before he spoke, “Listen doc, your sister...She means more to me den words can describe...Over time I have realized I would be da universe's biggest idiot if I did any t'ing to mess t'ings up with Lexi. Da guys all say Lex and I were in love before we even know it... Since da first time we met, da first time I saw her, I knew dat she would be somet'in' special to me. I didn't know what back den, but now I know for sure... My heart has always been hers.”

A silent hush roamed the room. Max in deep thought and Ace in fond memories he held close to his heart. The silence was broken by a 3rd person entering the room.

“Hey Ace. What’s with the hold up?” Lexi said gently as she rapped her arms around his neck.

Ace smiled at her, “Oh, I just got into some chit-chat with your brother here.”

Lexi sat down next to him, “What about?”

Ace looked at Max and thought for a second, “Politics. How some times one party can distrust another on the belief dat dat side has a hidden agenda. When in truth, the distrustin' party is da one wit' da agenda.”

Lexi leaned on the table, “Sounds boring to me.”

“I guess it can be.” Ace leaned back and placed his hands behind his head.

Max looked up at Ace, “Well Ace, I think you’re right. The distrusting party may indeed be the ones with the agenda, but remember, there is always a reason for it.”

Lexi felt a stinging sensation in her arm and clutched her arm under the fresh wound. Ace became worried.

“It’s still hearting?” He placed his hand on her shoulder. Lexi nodded, “Well, Tech gave me the medicine and a few t'ings to clean the gash with. Here, lemme take a look.”

Lexi adjusted so Ace could reach her shoulder. He gently pulled up the sleeve of her shirt to reveal the white bandage. He peeled it off carefully, and took out some kinda sterilizer wipe from a small package.

“D-dis might sting.” Ace said still with worry in his eyes.

“Okay...I'm ready.” Lexi took a deep breath. It stung. Lexi clutched her seat as she made a low small wine. Ace started to gently blow at the wound as he continued. This made Lexi relax. When he finished with the wipe he placed some kinda gel on the wound and gently placed on a new bandage.

Ace cleaned up the materials and smiled at Lexi.

“It feels a lot better.” She smiled back. Ace the realized that Max had been watching him intensely the entire time.

“Well. I say good night to you two.” Max stood up.

Lexi walked up to him and hugged him, “Night brother.”

Ace and Lexi started to leave as well when Max grabbed Ace's arm, “Ace, sometimes a member of a party can change their opinion. You're all right in my books.”

Very sweet chapter! Lexi's dad reminds me of Cassidy's dad, except Cassidy's dad wasn't afraid to voice his opinions to Tech......

Chapter 13

“You know, Lexi,” Alex said to his sister as he pushed the last of his clothes into a backpack.

“A lot of the people back home miss you.”Ryan finished.

“Well, maybe you can say hey for me when you go home tomorrow.” Lexi replied as she placed some of her family's luggage by the door. Today was their last day there before they had to go back to the ranch.

“Well, why can't you just say it in person?” Vivian asked, sitting in a beanbag chair with Jay-Jay in one next to her.

Lexi looked at her as if to say 'your so naive’, “Vivian I can't just leave you know...What if something happens herewhile I'm off in the country?”

“Ne, we would all die in a week?”Ace said sarcastically as he walked up behind her. Lexi looked at him with a look that was both joy and annoyances. She elbowed him, and said, “Thanks Ace, you’re such a help.”

“You’re welcome Lex.” Ace chuckled.

“We all still wish you could come home for a visit Lexi.” Jay-Jay said.

Lexi sighed and rubbed her eyes. Ace could tell at that moment she was torn between duty and family.

Ace casually walked back up to Lexi, “You know, Lex, it's been a wile since any of us got some down time. I'm sure Zadavia would be willin' to let all of us go on a vacation for a few weeks. And last time I checked, da country was a relaxin' place.”

Lexi's brothers and sister looked up with hopeful glances. Lexi stood there a moment as if thinking.

“Well...You are right Ace. None of us Loonatics have been on vacation for quite a long time. And, of course, we'd all have to be in agreement on where to go.”

“Oh, of course, Lex.”Ace and Lexi smiled at each other. They both knew what would happen but decided to play with the younger anthros.

“Oh, only if I knew a place that could house all six of us……” Lexi said.

“Lexi, the ranch is large enough! Please come home for a visit.” Vivian pleaded.

Lexi giggled, “Well, you've convinced me! I'll ask the guys and Zadavia. If we're lucky there will be no problems.”

Chapter 14

“We're almost there, guys!” Lexi said. The Loonatics had been in complete agreement when Ace and Lexi had brought up the idea of a vacation in the country, Zadavia agreed that a vacation would be good for them, and Lexi's family was more then ecstatic.

Now the two groups where crowded into an old fashioned bus following an old dirt road. The Loonatics eagerly took in the sites around them. Everywhere they looked they could see fields, hills, wild life, lakes, and much more. They were now rounding a bend in the road where a small hill blocked most there view.

“Alright, kids, please stay seated. Right after this bend and we’ll be at the ranch.”Russ said from the driver’s seat.

They turned the corner and there it was. The Ranch was indeed big. There were many animals around and horse rings for training them.

The bus was parked and everyone got out.

“Wow Lex, dis place is beautiful.” Ace commented.

“Ya, but wait ‘til you see the landscape around here.” Lexi replied.

They filed into the house. The room they entered had a comfortable feeling to it. It had a fireplace and mantle, stairs next to the door, there was a hand crafted table in the middle of the room, a green chair, a rocking chair, and two couches. The furthest wall was covered in pictures and photographs. There was a door on the opposite wall of the fireplace and hall next to the pictures.

“How ‘bout we settle you guys into some rooms?” Joe suggested.

“That's a good Joe. You dears wouldn't mind sharing rooms would you? Most of the rooms around here are set up for multiple people due to the fact that we open this place up as a camp at certain parts of the year.”Linda said.

“Not at all, Mrs. Linda,we'll be fine sharin'.”Ace said.

“That's good to hear. Now lets see, you three can share a room,” Max pointed to Duck, Slam, and Rev, “Wile you two can share the other.”Max pointed to Ace and Tech.

“Max, I think you mean we three.” Lexi said as she slipped her hand into Ace's.

“No Lexi. You brother is right. You know the rules of this house. You will be in your old room with your sister.” Russ said sternly.

“But pa-”

“No buts Lexi.”

“Fine.”

The Loonatics followed Max down the hall. At the end was just another hall. Down the left were three doors, and down the right were also three doors. The doors down the right had names carved on their wooden texture. One door said 'Max & Joe', the one next to it said 'Jay-Jay, Alex & Ryan', and the one at the very end said 'Vivian' with the faded words 'Lexi &'.

Ace and Tech got the room at the furthest end of the left hall way. Slam, Rev, and Duck got one of the others in the left hallway. Each room had 3 beds, dressers, and night stands.

When everyone had finished unpacking, they all met back in the main room. They were looking at the wall covered in pictures. One photo grabbed Ace's attention. It was Russ, but he was younger, more around Ace's and Max's age. He wore a military like uniform.

“Is dat you, sir?” Ace asked Russ.

“Yes it is, boy.”He replied.

“Pa used to be a guard.” Lexi piped in.

Duck looked at the photograph, “That's a pretty fancy uniform for just being a guard.”

“Mallard, I was not just any guard. I was the personal guard of aqueen and her royal family.”

“I didn't know there were royal families still on Acmetropolis.” Tech said.

“My boy, I was a guard on a distant planet. Beautiful planet, too. That’s where I met Linda,” Russ rapped his arm around his wife, “It turned out we were both from Acmetropolis and when we learned we were going to have children we came back here and made a simpler life for ourselves.”

Chapter 15

“Wow,-that's-such-a-sweet-story,-Mr.-Bunny! It-was-lucky-that-you-both-were-from-here-otherwise-you-may-have-had-to-chose-between-two-home-planets-and-that-wouldn't-be-fun-for-then-Mumm!”Tech and Ace clasped Rev's beak closed and gave him a look. Rev shrugged before he was let go.

“Let me give you guys a vocal tour of the house,”Vivian said, “This is the main slash living room, upstairs is Ma and Pa’s room and the bathrooms. You guys have seen the hallways that lead to the bedrooms, left is for guests and right is for residents, and through that door,” She pointed to the door that was opposite of the fireplace, “is the kitchen and dining room.”

“Let’s go show you all the outside. Ay?”Jay-Jay said.

“Not so fast little brother. They can’t go walking around here dressed in those uniforms. They'll scare the animals.” Max said. He then looked at the 6 Loonatics and smiled, “We need to get y'all in some good old fashioned western outfits.”

“That's a right idea son. All the animals around hear are accustomed to a dress code, and the horses will buck you off sooner then you can blink if y'all try to get on them dressed like that.” Russ agreed, “Boys, go find them all something that fits.”

“Yes Sir!” Lexi's brothers all answered simultaneously.

“Lexi, come on, I have your old outfit um...somewhere in our room.” Vivian tugged her sister by the arm.

“Vivian, careful with that will ya? It still hurts a little.” Lexi replied as she followed Vivian.

--After looking through some old boxes of clothes, the Bunnies were able to find some that fit the 5 male Loonatics. So now, all of them had on blue jeans, long sleeved button up shirts that ranged from white to light blue, vest of different shades of brown, and they had kerchiefs tied around their necks matching their colors.

“All you guys are missing are some good pair of boots and hats.” Ryan said as he leaned against the fireplace watching the Loonatics standing around trying to get used to their outfits which the Bunnies had grown so accustomed to.

Alex, who leaned on the other side of the firs, looked at his twin. “We'll get that later.”

All of Lexi's brothers were sitting around the room. Her parents had gone up to their room.

“Hey guys. We were finally able to find Lexis old clothes.” Vivian said as she entered the room full of boys. The Loonatics looked up to see Lexi walking in wearing a tight pair of blue jeans, a faded salmon colored button up shirt, a vest that had a cow spotted pattern on the upper half and brown on the rest, pink handkerchief.

“Hey y'all.” She said with a smile. Ace looked at her and just thought of how good she looked to him.

He walked up to her, she putting her hands in his, “Lex, you look good.”

“Thanks Ace.”She rubbed under his chin causing him to reveal a silly looking grin.

“Alright, all you boys go outside. I have a dinner to start.” Linda said as she came down.

“You heard your Ma. Out with ya. You girls go to.” Russ said coming down behind her.

“Yes Ma. YesPa.”They all said going through the door.

Chapter 16

Lexi jumped up onto the side of a horse stall that had a nameplate that says“Misty” and looked in. She frowned as a confused face fell upon her. The Loonatics and Bunny children were in the horse stall getting to know the animals. Lexi glanced at her eldest brother.

“Hey Max, where's Misty?”

“Huh? Oh, we put her on free range.” Max replied

She jumped off and looked at him in confusion, “Why is she on the free range? Misty is a trained horse, not a wild one.”

Max scoffed and walked up to his sister, crossing his arms, “Lexi, you are the only one who was EVER able to even mount that horse. You were the one to tame her and you are the only one she'll ever let ride her. That said, no one was able to give her the exercise she needed, so Pa thought it best to free range her.”

“Eh, Lexi?” Ace asked as he walked up to the siblings, “What exactly dose your father do?”

“Oh, Pa raises and sells horses. Some of the best around, too.” Lexi replied.

“Yup. Ya see, we have some of the fastest, strongest, and most loyal horses around, Ace. In these parts, a good horse is everything.” Max added.

“Ya.” Lexi agreed, “They’re the main source of transportation and are used to work fields of crop or herd cattle.”

“Whoa. So it sound like we all could do wit' a good steed.”

“Well, that's why we're here in the horse stalls.” Lexi smiled, “Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a horse to find.”

Lexi walked out of the open door of the stalls and towards a fence that seemed to fence off an endless valley of open range. She looked out upon the open plain, seeing green grass spotted with herds of horses. Lexi leaned on the fence and let out a whistle that went from high to low then high again.

A whine was heard in a distance as a horse came galloping. The horse was white and light gray, giving it the look of blue mist. It had the mark of a brand on its back right leg. The horse ran up to the fence and stopped right in front of Lexi.

“Hey, Misty.” Lexi pat the horse a couple of times before hugging its snout. The horse whined in delight of the attention of its old owner.

Ace smiled as he watched Lexi with her horse. He then felt something nibble at his ear.

“Hey Doc. Dat ain't no carrot.”Ace said looking at a white horse with yellow-ish markings on its body.

“Aw, looks like Spirit here likes you Ace.”Ace turned around to see Vivian standing there.

“I guess so kid.”

“You two have a lot in common.” She smiled as she patted the horse.

“What do ya mean?” Ace asked.

She leaned on the gate of Spirit's stall, “It's simple really. He has yellow marking. Your uniform color is yellow. The other horses often follow Spirit like a leader. You’re the leader of the Loonatics. And lastly Spirit here has a crush on Lexi's horse, Misty. And you’re going out with my sister.”

Vivian walked off as Ace looked at the horse, “Huh. Well, what do ya know dere; we do have a lot in common.” Ace patted Spirit a couple of times before just petting him, “If you like Misty the same way I care for Lexi, then you probably don't like being away from her all that much, do ya?”

The horse grunted as if to say 'ya'. He then sniffed around Ace's head as Ace gave a small chuckle. Lexi walked in with Misty in tow. The female horse stopped in front of Spirit's stall. Lexi looked at Misty when she stopped.

“Fine, Misty. You can say hello to Spirit.”The two horses looked at each other, whined, and then nuzzled each other. Ace and Lexi both giggled.

Lexi looked at the others, “Looks like everyone’s befriended a horse.”

Ace looked to see all the others petting or patting one the many horses.
