Chapter 2: "Get Your Shine On"

"Aww... What's the matter, Heidi? Can't take a little bit of pressure?" A girl's voice asked from behind them.

Cassidy winced when she heard the mocking voice. "Leave me alone, Terri. It's none of your business." She growled, turning around and glaring at the three blonde-haired girls behind her.

The oldest girl, Terri, shoke her head. "Tsk, tsk, Heidi. You really must learn to control that temper of yours." The second oldest replied.

"Okay, Sherry, I'm just going to turn around and pretend I didn't hear you." Cassidy turned around.

The youngest girl laughed. "Sheesh, so sensitive."

"You're right, Carrie. I'm going to feel sorry for her when she loses. NOT!" Terri laughed and the three girls left.

"Well, they seem nice." John pointed out scarcastically.

"A nice pain in the neck." Cassidy mumbled.

"Who were they?" Tech asked.

"The Clones. Terri, Sherry, and Carrie. I've been competing against them for a very long time. Too long in my opinion." Cassidy sighed. "I'm just going to have to do this without my gloves."

"What is your trick?" Tech asked.

"The cartwheel. I'm one of the very few to actually be able to do it. And the clones are just jealous of me because they can't. It's risky, but I've worked too hard to give up now." Just then, her name was called over the loudspeaker. "I've got to go. Thanks." And with that, she headed for the rink entrance.

Music stared as Cassidy stepped out onto the ice. She skated slowly, but when she reached the end of the rink, she jumped up and twirled. After landing, Cassidy skated backwards. She turned and spun around several times, moving closer and closer to the ice.

Still spinning, she stood up, and brought herself to a stop. Then, she put her hands up in the air, bent over, and lifted her body up and over in a small cartwheel. That was the easy one.

She headed for the opposite side of the rink, gathering speed. Tech only then noticed a small pad-like thing on the wall that Cassidy was headed towards. Only a stride away from the wall, she jumped. Putting her skate blades on the pad and pushing on it, she backflipped, landing gracefully.

Everybody

It's time to party

And time to show what you can do

Tech's eyes widened when he saw this. He didn't even think it was possible to do that. Cassidy just proved him wrong.

'Wow. She's really good at this.' Tech thought as Cassidy jumped and twirled at the same time.

Ohh, come on

Cassidy nervously bit her lip. The big cartwheel was next. She had never done it without her gloves. 'I can do this. I need to do this. I've worked too hard to give up now.' She lifted her hands up in the air and followed through with the cartwheel.

Her right hand slid from underneath her and she fell to the ice. She winced as pain shot up her arm. She slowly picked herself up.

"Number seven, Cassidy Coyote, has been disqualified"

Tech thought that wasn't fair. John and Charles agreed, and began pounding the walls and shouting, "Let her skate! Let her skate!" Without even thinking about it, Tech joined them.

The one judge pointed to them and nodded. Before any of them knew it, the three boys were grabbed roughly by their shirt collars by two very strong-looking men. The men tossed them into a near-by snow drift.

Cassidy rushed over to them. "Are you guys okay?" She asked, helping them out.

"Yeah, we're fine." They all replied.

Cassidy smiled. "And here I thought that it was going to be a normal competition."

"Normal?" Tech asked.

"Yeah, the usual. No one cheering for me. Completing my routine but losing because I'm an... anthro.." She whispered the last word.

"What does your species have to do with losing?"

"I'm the only anthro in the competition. The judges don't like different. And that's what I am... different."

"But... that's just wrong!"

"I know, but there's nothing I can do about it."

"Why don't you just quit?" Charles asked. John elbowed him.

"Because. I'm here to prove that an anthro can do what a human can. Anthros don't get the respect they deserve. I'm trying to change that, even if that change is only a little."

Tech knew what she was talking about. He didn't get much respect at the Institute. At least he had his two friends to help him out. He realized something. It didn't look like she had any friends. 'Well, whether or not if she does, I want to be her friend, anyway.'

Chapter 4: "You Set Me Free"
 
 "Do you want to try?" Cassidy asked.
 
 "Oh, no. That's okay." Tech backed away slightly
 
 "Awww... why not?"
 
 "Well, uh, I doubt your skates would fit me."
 
 Completely unnoticed by the two coyotes, Rev zipped in and out so fast you couldn't see him, leaving behind him a pair of skates.
 
 Cassidy noticed the pair sitting behind Tech. "Hey, what about those ones?"
 
 Tech picked them up. "Size 13. Wide." He almost gulped.
 
 "Great! Why don't you try?"
 
 "Well, uh, truth is, I don't know how to skate." Tech confessed, bowing his head in embarrassment.
 
 "Oh. I could teach you!" Cassidy suggested.
 
 "No, Cass, please..."
 
 "Why don't you just try?" Cassidy asked. "Don't make me turn on the sad eyes." She threatened jokingly.

 "Okay! You've got me!" Tech chuckled.   
 
 A few minutes later, Tech was hesitantly stepping on to the ice. Cassidy held his one hand while the other clutched the wall.
 
 "There. Now just try walking on the ice." Cassidy suggested.
 
 Tech slowly walked across the ice. "Hey! I...I'm doing it!"
 
 Cassidy giggled "Of course, silly! What did you think you were doing?"
 
 Tech let go of both the wall and Cassidy's hand. Cassidy skated backwards in front of him, ready to catch him if he fell. 'Cause falling forwards really hurts.' This reminded Cassidy of a day Tech helped her back up when she fell.
 
(start flashback)
 
 "Please, guy, do I have to come?" Tech asked as he was being dragged out of HQ by Rev.
 
 "Yes, Tech, you need to get out of the lab once in a while." Lexi said.
 
 "Sheesh, where have I heard that one before?" Tech rolled his eyes.
 
 "So.. where are we going?" Cassidy's shy voice asked.
 
 "AcmePark, accordin' to Lexi." Ace answered.
 
 Cassidy blinked. 'AcmePark, that's where it happened..... oh, Cassidy don't be such a chicken. You're gonna have fun!' But still, she couldn't convince herself to calm down and relax.
 
 Once there, they all sat down on the grass, talking and laughing, aside from Tech and Cassidy, who were busy reading underneath some trees.
 
 
 Tech glanced over at her. She was curled up beside the tree, pretending to be reading her book. Tech could see her eyes scanning the surrounding area, like a small hunted thing. 'Why is she so scared?' He wondered. 'Only one way to find out.' He stood up and walked over to her. "Hey, do you mind if I join you?" He asked.

Cassidy looked up at him and feigned a smile. "Sure." She moved over to make room for him, even though there already was.

This confused Tech very much. True, girls had always been puzziling to Tech, but she was extremely confusing. "Thanks." He said, sitting down beside her. Tech watched her closely but discreetly. He noticed how she kept at least a foot of space between them. 'I come in peace!' He felt like saying, but knew that that might unnerve her even more. The girl's brown eyes jumped from watching him to her surroundings and back again numerous times.

Finally, Tech got the nerve to say something. "Are you okay?"

She shot him a look. "What do you mean?"

"It's just, you seem very, uh...." He searched his brain for the right word, "Frightened. And I was wondering why." 'Oh, Tech, come on! Frightened?! Is that the best word you could come up with?' His mind yelled at him
 
'Oh, shut up, it's not like I'm trying to impress her!'

She was silent. 'You would be too, if it happened to you.' But otherwise said nothing.

 "So, are you okay?" He asked.

 Cassidy couldn't say anything. She wanted to, but just couldn't. Fear clutched her heart, making it hard for her to breathe. Everything inside of her screamed, 'No! Don't trust him! Get away from him!'

 Tech gazed at her curiously. He reached out and gently set his hand on her shoulder. Startled by the unfamiliar touch, Cassidy jumped and backed away from Tech. Tech finally got a good look at her face, which was panic-striken. 'But why?'

 Cassidy stood up and began to flee. "Wait, Cassidy!" Tech called after her. Cassidy stopped. "I'm sorry if I scared you. It's just.... I... I feel like I know you.."
 
 Cassidy gave him a confused look. "Well, I hope you know me! We work together, remember?"
 
 "No, not like that! I meant, from before the meteor..."
 
 Cassidy froze. Again, her heartbeat rose. Without saying another word, she turned and ran.
 
 Tech looked on helplessly. 'Was she hurt by the meteor, too?'

Yeah, we're still in the past, this very long flash back happens about a few weeks after Zadavia recruited Cassidy to the team.
 
Chapter 5: "Slipping and Falling"

 When the six Loonatics returned to the tower, Ace pulled Tech aside. "Do you know what happened to Cassidy? One minute she was with you, the next, she's nowhere in sight."
 
 "Honestly, Chief, I'm not too sure. I do have a theory, though."
 
 "Okay, fire away."
 
 "I think the meteor did more than give her powers. I think she was hurt emotionally by it."
 
 "How can you tell?"
 
 "I've been watching her closely. Any little noise that sounds even slightly simaliar to a 'bang,' and she freaks out. And when I mentioned the meteor, she seemed terrified, and then ran off."
 
 Ace nodded slowly, thinking. "What do you think we should do?"

 "Well, I've been trying to get her to open up, but she seems very unwilling to talk. I guess that we do the only thing we can do, try and help her."
 
 "Okay, keep an eye on her. You may be the only one she'll talk to, considering that you two spend so much time together in the lab."

Just when it's getting good I slowly start to freeze

 All she could hear was the pounding of her heart. She wasn't completly sure why she ran. All she knew is that she had to. She leaned up against her bedroom door, hoping that the cold metal would help calm her down. No way. She was still tense and nervous. She could still hear his words ringing in her mind. 'I feel like I know you..... from before the meteor.'
 
Just when it's feeling real I put my heart to sleep

 "No, you don't. No, I don't." She murmmered to herself, soon stopping, realizing that she was lying to herself. She reached under her bed and pulled out an old backpack, something she hadn't touched since she'd joined the team. From it she retreived an old photo. The photo was of two coyote anthros, one male, one female. The female was her, she knew it. The male, she couldn't recognize. Several times she had been tempted to throw it away, but was never able to bring herself to do so.
 
It's the memory I can't see
 
 "No, it can't be him." She whispered, her heart still racing. "Tech has green eyes, this person has blue."

 Still, she couldn't shake the strange feeling she had in her heart. Why did she feel so weird around him? Why did she feel like she knew him?
 
Then this fear comes over me

 Cassidy sighed and put the picture back. Then, she heard a soft knock on her door. She hesitated before opening the door. "Oh, hi, Tech."
 
 "Hi, Cassidy. I just wanted to check on you. I was worried when you ran off." Tech said.

 "Well, you don't need to be, I'm fine." She went to walk past him, but Tech put his arm out in front of her. "Tech, I told you..."
 
Understand that I don't mean
 
 "Cassidy, I know something's bothering you. The only way it can get better is to talk about it."
 
 'How could you understand? This didn't happen to you! I know you're only trying to help, but I can handle this!' She ducked under his arm and walked away.
 
 Tech stood there, quite confused. 'How can I help her if she won't let me near her?'

BOOM!!!!!!
 
 "Woah! What was that?!" Ace asked as they felt the tower shake with the explosion.
 
 "I have no idea!" Tech said. Ace, Lexi, Duck, Slam, and Cassidy were all in the main room together. Rev was the only one missing. Tech and Cassidy jumped up from their seats and ran towards the origin of the explosion, the lab.
 
 "Whoa. What happened in here?" Cassidy asked as she and Tech walked through the lab doors.
 
Why am I so afraid to crash down and lose my heart again?

 Tech took one look before answering. "Rev." Papers and little peices of machinery were scattered all over the room. "By the looks of it, he got into my latest project, which was not ready to be played with."
 
 Suddenly, Rev ran in through the doors. "Oh, no, I was hoping that you guys hadn't heard and that I could clean this up before you came in here! Tech, I'm so so so so so so so so so so sorry!!!!!"
 
I don't know, I can't see, what's come over me?

 "Rev," Tech put his hand on Rev's shoulder. "It's okay, no one's hurt, and there's only a small mess. Just.... promise me you will never do it again."
 
 "Okay, I promise! I'm really really really sorry, Tech, I'll never do it again, I promise!!" Rev then dissappeared.
 
 Tech shook his head. "I'll believe it when I see it." He sighed.

 "Does he do this alot?" Cassidy asked.
 
Why am I so afraid to break down and lose my mind again?

 "Yes. I had a security system installed, but he must have been able to penetrate it." He began to tidy one of the desks.
 
 Cassidy picked up papers off the floor, trying to forget the earlier arguement. Soon, she came across a very old paper, its edges were burnt. She studied the writing on it. It was unmistakenly Tech's.
 
I don't know, I can't see, what's come over me?

 
"What's this?" She asked.

 
Tech's eyes widened when he saw it. "It's uh...... a project..."

 
 "It looks interesting... can you tell me more?"

 "I...." Tech hesitated, but Cassidy's curious look was too much for him. "I built it during my term at Acme Tech Institute."

 
 'Acme Tech Institute..' The words kept ringing in Cassidy's mind. She knew that place. A rush of voices hit her at the same time, voices she hadn't heard in what felt like ages.

 
 "Awww... look at the little lost puppy dog! HAHA!"

 
 "What is she doing here?"

 
 "I can't believe that she thinks she can go anywhere here."

 
 "Why don't you go back to your little chemistry set and let the real scientists do their work?"

 
 "Yeah, you don't belong here!"

 Cassidy backed away as the voices grew stronger. "No... please... go away."

 
 Tech sat up in alarm. "Cassidy? Are you alright?"

 Tech's voice chased away the voices. Cassidy blinked. "Yeah, I'm fine."

 
 "Are you sure?"
 
 "Yes, I'll be okay... I guess that the explosion gave me a bit of a headache. I need to lay down... I'll see you later, Tech...."
 
 Just as she was walking through the main room, the hologram alarm went off. Tech came running into the room. Zadavia's hologram appeared. "Loonatics, Massive has escaped once again. You must stop him."
 
 "We're on it, Zadavia." Ace answered.
 
 "Zadavia out."
 
 "Okay team," Ace said, standing up. "Let's..." His voice broke off when he saw Cassidy standing behind him. "Er...."
 
 "Can I come, too?" She asked quietly.
 
 Ace gave a small sigh. "I'm sorry, Cassidy, but..... I think you should wait. I mean, you've only been here for a few weeks, you're still in training."
 
 Cassidy nodded. "Okay. Good luck."
 
 "Thanks. Anyway, as I was saying, let's jet!" Ace then led the team out of HQ. Tech glanced worriedly at Cassidy before following.
 
 It was a simple mission. Over in about fifteen minutes, no injures, but slight damages to nearby buildings. When the six returned to HQ, Tech immediatly disappeared in search of Cassidy. The first place he looked was his lab.
 
You've got a way of easing me out of myself
 
 Tech stopped at the lab doors. On the floor was Cassidy. Her one leg was bent beside her, the other stretched out in front of her. Cassidy was reaching out to touch her toe. Tech kept silent, not wanting to disturb her, whatever she was doing.
 
I can't stay but I can't leave, I am my worst enemy

 Still oblivious to the fact that she was being watched, Cassidy switched legs. After that, she layed flat on her back, and, with her hands pressed against the floor behind her head and her feet planted on the floor below her, attempted to pick herself up.
 
Please understand that it's not you,
 
 Just then, Tech moved his foot, accidently making a noise. Cassidy heard it and jumped, landing flat on her back. "Ommph!"
 
It's what I do
 
 Tech hurried over to her. "Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." He stretched his hand out for her. "But I don't think you're supposed to do that." He said, referring to the way she reacted to him.
 
Just when I'm about to run

 "That's okay, you just surprised me." She hesitated before accepting Tech's hand.
 
I realize what I've become

 Tech tried to hide a smile. Something was working, because she allowed Tech to help her up. However, as soon as she was on her own feet, she immediately let go of his hand and backed away slightly. 'But, it's a start.' Then, he got an idea. "Do you want to sit down?" He offered her a chair.

 Cassidy hesitated. 'Go ahead, he doesn't want to hurt you.' Her heart told her.
 
 'No! Don't trust him! You don't want it happening to you again!' Her mind reminded her.
 
 Cassidy shyly smiled. "Thank you." She sat down. "I guess you're wondering why I've been acting weird lately."
 
 Tech blinked. He did not see that coming. "Uh... well, yes."

I don't know, I can't see, what's come over me?
 
 "It's a long story..."
 
 "Well... we're not going anywhere."

 Cassidy slowly shook her head. "No, I'm sorry... I can't....." She stood up.

 "Cassidy, wait." Tech grabbed her arm and felt her jump again. "Please, tell me. I want to help."

 Cassidy's eyes were suddenly locked to Tech's. Again he asked, "Please?"

 Cassidy nodded and sat back down again. "It happened when the meteor hit. I was in the hospital for a little more than a month." She stopped and took a deep breath. Tech waited patiently, knowing that this could be painful for her. "When I woke up, the doctors said I suffered from a major case of amnesia. I couldn't remember anything."

Chapter 6: "Promise"

You are fine, you are sweet

 "Amnesia?" Tech echoed. "That's not exactly considered serious, unless.." He trailed off, afraid that he was right.
 
 "In my case, it was." Cassidy sighed. "I had lost all of my memory. What I know about my past was told to me. Execpt what came back to me."
 
 "How did it come back?"
 
 "Flashbacks, dreams, pretty much any way it could."

 But I'm still a bit naive with my heart 
 Tech slowly shook his head. "Serious memory loss is a very tough thing to go through."
 
 Cassidy nodded. Tech noticed tears in her eyes. "It was. Too scared to look back, too scared to look forward. I was stuck." 'And I still am....'

When you're close I don't breathe 
 "Cassidy, I don't know what to say except that, I'm really sorry."

 "Tech?" Cassidy glanced up at him. "Will you not tell the others? It took a lot to tell you, and I just don't feel ready to have them know."
 
 Tech set his hand on her shoulder. "Of course. I promise I will not say a word."
 
 Cassidy smiled. This was one of the first times he had seen her smile. He liked it. "Thank you, Tech."

 Cassidy adjusted her backpack. She had no clue why she had come here of all places, and she wasn't exactly sure where she was going, but she didn't get a chance to figure that out.

 "Hello again, Cassidy."

 Cassidy jumped and turned around in shock. "No...."
 
 Behind her stood a tall, light-haired man. "I missed you. I couldn't find you. Where'd you go?"
 
 "Go away.... please...." Cassidy began backing away from him.
 
 "You know I can't." He stepped towards her and took her hand. "You still don't remember me, do you?"
 
 "No, I can't."

 "Have any of you seen Cassidy lately?" Tech asked as he walked into the main room.
 
 "Nope, we figured she was with you." Ace answered casually. He looked up and saw a worried look on Tech's face. "Is something wrong?"
 
 "I'm not sure.... I just have a strange feeling that something isn't right....." Suddenly, he could see someone, Cassidy. Then, the strange feeling he had grew larger. She was in trouble, he knew it.

 "Tech?" Rev called out.
 
 Tech shook his head to get himself back where he was. "I'll be back!" He called to the others before grabbing his coat and running out the door.
 
 The others exchanged confused looks.

 "I've told you a million times, leave me alone!" Cassidy begged.
 
 "No, I can't. And I won't." The man pressed closer to her.

 Cassidy bolted away from him, running as fast as she could. He pursued her, and began gaining on her. Cassidy's already-soaked running shoes slipped on the rain-soaked ground. He was finnally able to grab her and pull her close. Cassidy scrambled and fell to the ground. He fell with her.
 
 "HEY YOU!"

When you call I don't know if I should pick up the phone every time 
 
 The guy turned around and saw who was behind him. Dressed in a long trench coat and a green-and-black uniform with glowing green eyes stood Tech.
 
 Tech gave a loud, deep growl. "Get away from her. NOW!"
 
 "Says who?" The man countered.

I'm not like all my friends
Who keep calling up the boys, I'm so shy 
 
 "Me." Tech grabbed him roughly by the collar and yanked him to his feet. "I'm warning you," He glared right at him. "The only reason why you're able to walk is because I never knew about you until now."
 
 "Soo... what are you gonna do?" He asked, his voice shaking in fear.

But I don't wanna be into you
If you don't treat me the right way 
 
 "Nothing. I'm letting you go. On a warning. You come within 15 feet of her again and I guarantee you that you will not be able to walk. Ever. Are we clear?" 
 
 He gave a shaky nod. Tech let him go and he ran away as fast as he could.
 
 Tech turned to Cassidy, who was standing now. "Are you okay?"

See I can only start seeing you
If you can make my heart feel safe 
 
 "Thanks, Tech, I don't know what would have happened if you hadn't found me."
 
 "Hey, don't worry. That's what teammates do, stick up for each other." He paused for a minute. "On another note, you scared me, Cassidy. What the heck were you doing here alone in the middle of a rainstorm, anyway?"

 "Well, I was... I was thinking," Tech's concerned gaze became too much for her. " .... about leaving."

 Tech blinked. Once again, the girl had given him a complete surprise. "But.. why?"
 
 "I'll never be able to be like you guys. I'm just an ordinary girl."
 
 "Hey, don't say that. In fact, that was my thought when I first joined. You're still new, it's too early to tell."

Will you try to make me feel better?
 
 "But, I've been here for weeks, now, and Ace is still hesitant to take me on a mission. I want to know for sure, do I belong here?"
 
 "He's worried about you. He knows that there's something bothering you, he's afraid of putting you in a mission too soon and you getting hurt. You have to prove to him that you're ready."

Will you say alright

Will you say ok 
 
 Silence fell between the two as Cassidy began thinking. Finally, Tech spoke up. "So, who was that guy, anyway?"

Will you stick with me through whatever?
 
 "Honestly, I'm not sure." She sat down on one of the park's benches. Tech sat down beside her. "His name is Eric. He and I... we dated for a little while in high school. After high school.... I don't know what happened, but the next time I saw him was right before the meteor. Apparently, he hasn't let me go. I could barely remember him. Then, when he found out that I was in the hospital after the meteor, he tried to visit me. I didn't know who he was, and refused to let him visit. When I released from the hospital, he...." She hesitated. "He began stalking me."

When it's not ok 
 
 "Cassidy.. " Tech started, but stopped, not knowing what to say. He simply put his arm around her shoulders.
 
 Cassidy jumped from the unfamiliar and unexpected touch, but gradually accepted it. "I was scared, Tech. I didn't know what to do...."

Will you try to make me feel better? 

 "Hey, don't worry, he's not going to be coming back anymore."
 
 Cassidy looked up at Tech. "But, what if he does? What will happen?"

 Tech hesitated before hugging her gently. "If he does come back..... I will find a way to protect you, no matter what. I promise."

 Cassidy smiled and slowly returned the embrace. "You didn't need to do that, Tech."
 
 "I wanted to."

 "Thank you, Tech. I really needed to hear that."

Chapter 7: "Lightning Strikes Twice"  

 "Tech, for the last time, I'm fine!" Cassidy sighed.
 
 Still, Tech pressed his concern. "No, I know you're not."
 
 Cassidy shot him a disbelieving look. "You do? How? How do you know?"
 
 "It's... hard to explain. I just... I know what you're going through."
 
 "Look, Tech, I'm very gratefull for what you did for me. It was really brave of you. But, I'm being honest with you, I'm okay!"
 
 Just then, Ace, Lexi, Rev, Duck and Slam entered the kitchen, where Tech and Cassidy were. Cassidy, not liking the sudden crowd in the room, went to leave, but Tech, still concerned about her, blocked her path. Cassidy glanced up at him, the stubborn fire in her eyes disappearing, being replaced by a begging look. 'Please Tech, don't make me stay here.' 
 
 Tech was surprised by the look, and backed off. Cassidy flashed him a grateful look and hurriedly left. Ace, Lexi, Rev, Duck, and Slam exchanged confused looks.
 
 Duck finally broke the ackward silence by making it even more ackward. For Tech, at least. "Havin' girl problems, Tech?"
 
 Tech didn't reply, he just sat down at the table, a worried and thoughtful expression on his face.
 
 "Hold on, guys," Lexi cut in. "I think this situation is more serious than it looks." She sat down beside Tech. "What happened, Tech?"
 
 "What do you mean?" Tech feinged not knowing what she was talking about.
 
 "How about we start with why you suddenly ran off to Acme Park." Ace suggested. 
 
 Tech hesitated before answering. "To protect Cassidy."
 
 "Why?" Rev asked "Was she in trouble?"
 
 Tech gave a small nod. "Someone.... someone was stalking her."
 
 Lexi gasped in horror. "Who? Is she alright?"
 
 "A guy from her past, and for the most part. She's a bit shooken up, but she's refusing to tell me anything else."
 
 There was silence in the room again for a few seconds, then Ace spoke up. "Eh, Tech, come with me, I need to talk to ya."
 
 Sure, Chief." Tech stood up and floowed Ace out into the empty hallway. "What did you want to talk about?"
 
 "Cassidy. It's obvious that she's opened up to you a bit, and I really need to know what happened to her." Ace said.
 
 Tech blinked, remembering his promise to Cassidy. 'Will you not tell the others? It took a lot to tell you, and I just don't feel ready to have them know.'
 
 'Of course. I promise I will not say a word.'
 
 "I...... I'm sorry, Cheif, I can't tell you."
 
 This time, Ace blinked. "What?"
 
 "I can't tell you. See, Cassidy made me promise not to tell you guys. She said she wanted to tell you."
 
 "Do you know when she plans on doing it?"
 
 "No, I don't. She doesn't feel ready yet."
 
 Ace ran a hand through his gray fur. "Tech, I need to know, especially if it might affect her performance on the field."
 
 Tech then said something he thought he'd never say. "Well, I don't think that matters, considering you won't give her a chance."
 
 Ace glared at him. "I don't know what going on between you two, but you know very well the reason why I'm holding her back is because I don't want her getting hurt because she's not ready!"
 
 Tech prepared to defend himself. "Ace, all I'm saying is that she's getting discouraged because you don't believe in her. She knows you don't have faith in her, and it's hurting her."
 
 Ace paused. "You said you had a theory that she was emotionally hurt by the meteor. Were you right?"
 
 Tech took a deep breath. "Yes, I was. But I can't tell you anymore than that. You're going to have to wait for her to tell you." 'I'm not about to break my promise to her.'
 
 Ace gave him one last warning look before leaving. Tech, unsure of what to do, walked back into the kitchen, where he was attacked by questions from Lexi, Rev, and Slam. Duck, however, took no intrest in the situation and left.
 
 Tech shook off all their questions and escaped to his lab.
 
 Meanwhile, Cassidy was hiding in her room. She had her old backpack on the ground, and out of it she pulled a pair of ice skates. They were pretty old, with black marks and scratches all over them, and the blades were a bit rusted. She ran her hand over the initials that were written on the side. 'C.C.'
 
 'Why didn't I just get rid of these? I can't skate anymore. I never will...' She sighed as her eyes spotted a small package of photos.

 Cassidy's hand stretched out to pick them up, but then flopped to the floor. 'I think I just need a good night's sleep.....' She thought, yawning.

 After getting changed into her pajamas, she curled up underneath her blanket and closed her eyes. Yet, for some strange reason, she could not fall asleep. She laid there, staring at the ceiling. She rolled on to her stomach and reached over the edge of her bed to where her backpack laid. She reached into it and pulled out that picture. The one of her and another coyote.

 Cassidy gazed at the picture. She still couldn't shake the strange feeling she had inside, the one about Tech. He seemed so familiar, yet nothing really reminded her of anything.

 Suddenly, she could smell something. She couldn't quite place the scent. But it was quickly filling the room. It got to the point where it was hard for her to breathe. She jumped out of bed and ran to the door, but it wouldn't open. Panic clutched her as she tried to escape whatever it was that was in her room. She knew she couldn't use her powers, as the walls were fire-proof.

 Cassidy banged her fist against the metal door as hard as she could, hoping one of the others would hear. It was getting harder and harder for her to breathe. She began coughing. Her pounding on the door became weaker as she began to slip from consciousness. Within a few moments, she was passed out on the floor.
