Alright, I don't really know why I started this or if this is the right place to post it, but this is total crazyness! There was a fire today, and I witnessed it!
Well, sort of anyways. My school was lit on fire today, ending with the beginning of the weekend starting early!!
It was around 11:40am when it all started. I was at my locker, talking to my best friend, Britt, when the fire alarm went off. It scared us when it went off, but we didn't really think much of it; everyone around us was just walking out of the building easily and the fire alarm had been pulled for no reason before. So, we were walking down into the lower field, joking with each other; until we saw the huge, black cloud of smoke rising out of the doors to one of the hallways. Our jaws dropped; apparently, some guy in the 8th grade had lit up the paper dispenser and garbage can in one of the boy's bathrooms before pulling the fire alarm. So, we stood outside on that field for an hour, the whole school huddled together in one big group as we watched the fire department, school buses, the local tv crew, and ambulances arrived in the student parking lot. I was so high on adrenaline that it took 56 minutes of jumping around and shouting, talking to my mom on my friend's cell phone twice, and 3 of my usually hyper friends to calm me down. But after 12:30pm, the teachers announced that school was closed and that we were to find rides home or walk home. My backpack, as well as 3/4 of the students' backpacks, are still in the school as we speak.
It's now been 6 hours. And I'm STILL shaking from the excitment and rush of it all!
Which raises the question: Have any of you guys witnessed a fire; in school, or any other building?
Sorta weird question, yes; but I'm curious to know.
-ponders- Stove set on fire once... that's about it. X3 Oh, and there was almost an electrical fire in my house last year but... it all turned out fine.
I hope your school is okay. Although... I'm happy for you that you got out early for the weekend. =D Pipes freezing and/or breaking is the only reason I've gotten out of school early in the past. Hehe.
Oooh, that sounds extremely similar to something that happened at my school recently!
I think it was in February. I was in 5th period, it was something like 12:45 pm or something. Suddenly our teacher leaves the room, comes back shouting "GET OUTSIDE GET OUTSIDE" really urgently as she grabs a fire extinguisher and RUNS out of the room. Well, OK.
We go outside, and THEN the fire alarm rings out. Our class was probably one of the only ones that knew that it was a real fire (since our teacher was the one who presumably put it out). And, much like your school, it ended up that some girl (on bars, who had only been at our school for 10 days) lit one of the paper towel dispensers on fire in the girl's bathroom.
The problem was, though, the dispenser released dangerous toxins into the air when it got burnt. And those toxins got into the ventilation system, and eventually spread around the entire school. It was literally a chemical hazard to enter the school as one's lungs could get contaminated with DEATH INDUCING chemicals. Yet, after an hour and 45 minutes of being outside (in 45 degree wind and rain, by the way, not pleasant at all) they all had us quickly go inside and get our backpacks anyway, and we had school the very next day.
Drat!
Once, though, I got a full four days off from school because of a Hurricane threat. (Hurricane Rita, 2005). And, even better, the hurricane never actually came. It was so amusing.
Wow, that must've been some day for you guys. It does seem like what happened with us. We've never had a hurricaine around here, so we've never left school on a hurricane threat. But that does sound amusing!
I heard that it got so bad in the school, that the Woodwork room got caught on fire and we might not be able to go next week. Then again, that might just be a silly rumor.
Haha, yeah, I heard all kinds of crazy rumors after my school had that chemical scare. No school tomorrow, no school next week, we'd have to be located to a whole 'nother campus altogether! But alas, we just went right back there the very next day.
Of course, not all rumors should be discredited, but all of those certainly were!
I was in my French lesson with my teacher until the fire alarm went off. We ignored it since it happens frequently in our school. As soon as the alarm rang again we ignored it. The third time it rang, the teacher went out of the classroom and found three kids pressing the fire alarm. She shouted at them until they explained that there was a real fire down the English corridor. The whole school evacuated even thought it was a small fire. And because it was a small fire, we all went back into the school when the fire was put out.
I was evacuated from my house from a(n industrial) plant fire. It's on TV.com, too lazy to find it.
