Ah thanks! I've been looking for this girl for the longest time now!
I first heard her in "Buried alive." Since then, I've been haunted by her voice. I kept hearing her say the line "I hate my life" and it drove me crazy that I couldn't remember her name or the song because the way she says it makes me shiver. So, thanks! ^^ I'm not necessarily fond of her, but its good to know her by name now.
But you're probably taking the reference to them as "crazy" too seriously. Also, I hadn't seen Light This City. But she can definitely hold her own with the other two!
I think there was another growly female lead in this other band called I Wrestled A Bear Once, but I'm too lazy to find links right now and I need to get back to Calculus anyway.
Hey Aylie, I only got into this stuff like two years ago, and I still don't really listen to Otep or Arch Enemy. X| It took a while in order for it to grow on me, but even now, It goes old after a few listens. I guess thats why I like Flyleaf and linkin park, for they incorporate their singing alongside their screaming. Hehe.
I'm not a metal head, I'm too soft for it. Hehe *Goes off to listen to the Ecco the Dolphin soundtrack*
95% of the metal I listen to at least incorporates singing, if not made up entirely of clean vocals. Bands like Nightwish, Katatonia, Green Carnation, Amorphis, Dream Theater, Within Temptation, Sonata Arctica and many many more are your friends like that.

I understand that, and I do enjoy some of those bands. Regardless, even though I can pretty much enjoy anything, I tend to lean just a little bit more to pop and soft rock, and then foreign music =)
Well, I also listen to Enya, Franz Ferdinand, Vanessa Carlton, U2, The Corrs, Tenhi, R.E.M., Fields, Daft Punk and other stuff like that that is more poppy and not metal, so I definitely see where you're coming from there as well.
I wish upon a star Wanna be right where you are You set my world on fire Babe I got a crush on you I wish upon a star Can't you see how right we are We should be together Babe I got a crush on you
So if you feel the way I do Would you fancy to To take a ride beside me?
Me and you, you and me. Living a life in harmony It's magic(oh it's magic) babe I've got a crush on you [x2]
My tastes are extremely varied as well. If I had to, I would identify as a rocker 'cause it's what I listen to the most, but I don't really like to label myself.
I can live with the screaming as long as it's moderated. The one in this video is mostly as much as I can take, anything more...and Ayelet ends up with a massive headache and an immense urge to break the stereo. D:
I've heard The Kill, which I find equally as awesome as the song you linked. I don't know why I haven't the initiative to get into these guys sooner.
And there's a ridiculous amount of types of 'screaming' in music. Emotive-yelling, hardcore yelling, screamo-screams, screamo-growls, demonic screams, Pharoah-curse screaming, death metal growling. The sad part is I can distinguish them all =(
I can't - however, I'm pretty freakin' sure that the demonic scream, and all the various growlings are among the ones I absolutely cannot listen to.
What type are the ones in the videos you posted?
Otep is mainly screamo-growling (even if her music isn't screamo), and Arch Enemy is kinda like an intricate mix of Demonic screaming/growling and death metal growling.
Ye gads, I need a new hobby.
Also I liked the whole Shining parallel in The Kill, but I didn't like the way they kept interrupting the song for it.
