Australia always striked me as the 'perfect' country, for some reason. I'm utterly fascinated with it.
I don't have much of an opinion on it though, because I know little to nothing about economy and politics...so I can only speak about the environment and the way Aussie appears. Which is absolutely awesome.

But if I had to name a little annoyance?
I've heard that it's pretty much impossible to move there, unless your profession can do good for the country. Basically, for a foreigner to live in Australia, they have to either be a brilliant doctor, vet' or some scientist. Alternatively they can get access by marrying an aussie.
So like...I wouldn't be allowed to try starting a life working as a bartender or an employee in a store. And me not being a born genius and since I'm not even remotely interested in any of those professions, chances of living there are null.

Of course, I've heard this over here, so I don't know if it's true or just a rumor. I never really researched it, perhaps you can enlighten me?

But yeah, when in a conversation someone brings up Australia, I get all excited and stuff. I do love it very much.

When I hear the word Australia it makes me think of kangaroos and the Sydney Opera House. It also makes me think of Steve Irwin and the crocodiles too. Like Aylet says, for some reason I get excited at the word too.

Aborigines are tribesmen who live in rainforests who have their own unique lifestyle. I watched The Really Wild show here in the UK, so that cleared up the stereotypical image of Australians. But watching I'm a Celebrity! Get me out of here! doesn't help.

That bring me to another question: How do you guys percieve the other nations like France, China, America, or even the UK? Mizz Xtream, you've started an interesting topic.

For some strange unkown reason, I get excited when I hear someone mention Australia. Just like Ayelet and Akira. But the thing that I think of first when somebody says Australia is Steve Irwin. Or kangaroos. Or dingos. And, not to make you feel uncomfortable or anything, but I absolutely love the accents. 8D Always have.

But, also like Aylete, I've heard that it's killer on someone to make a living down there unless your a brilliant person. Is that true?

I must also agree with Akira when I say that you have created a very interesting topic! I'd love to hear what you guyz think of Canada as well. biggrin

DUDE! Didn’t know Aussie was so popular. XD

The question about moving over here is that there are 3 ways to get citizenship (I think). Either because you have family over here, you’re planning on getting a permanent professional full-time job (like, as Ayelet said, nursing (which we’ve actually got a shortage of… COME DOWN TO AUSTRALIA IF YOU’RE GOING INTO THE MEDICAL DEPARTMENT 8D!), architecture maybe… stuff like that) OR you marry an Aussie feller/sheila. But even then they bombard you with questions and paperwork. My step father came over here to marry my mother and lived on a visa for about 3 years, and it took him half that time to convince the government he was here for good. They were still questioning him even after they had my half-sister. D8

Economic-wise… I’m not sure how we’re doing… I know we’re going through a serious drought and that the Murry-Darling system is pretty screwed up… Farmers are losing jobs and such. D8

Politics appear to have gone uphill since Howard left the scene. Though I’m not really into politics, I just know that my Dad isn’t yelling at the TV as much anymore. XD

Aborigines don’t all live in rainforests (not that we have many of those here anyway. IT’S THE BUSH OVER HERE! XD). Some have stuck with their roots and are still living out in the outback, but over 50% live in cities and suburbia and stuff… There’s a bunch of stuff going on atm about the Aborigines in the Northern Territory… About how they’re uneducated and abused and doll-bludgers and stuff… But I’m not sure all of it’s true. The media tends to exaggerate but I’m pretty sure army reserves or something have been sent that way…

KALINA WOULD LIKE ME TO INFORM YOU THAT WE DO NOT HAVE KANGAROOS RUNNING AROUND IN THE STREETS. THEY LIVE OUT IN THE WHOOP-WHOOPS WITH THE DINGOS, WHICH SHE HAS NEVER SEEN. XD

I was also pleased when Howard left and especially happy when Kevin Rudd apologized to Australia's Aborigines.

I think of kangaroos, the Outback, and boomerangs when I first think of Australia.

Boomerangs are awesome! My Dad's sister married an Aboriginal and she gets to paint boomerangs and stuff all the time. 8D

You know, we have wildlife parks and stuff down here where you can actually pet native australian animals. :3

I've ALWAYS wanted to go to Sydney, even before Finding Nemo (which only made me want to go MORE)

When I think about it, i think about Boomerangs, kangeroos, koalas, didgeridoos, The opra house, Taz, and desert........OH and the Great Barrier Reef!

We have rainforests in Tasmania ( \8D/ ) and up in Queensland and NSW-way. Kakadu park and the Blue Mountains come to mind... 83

Our Snowy Mountains, I think, are somewhere around Melbourne. NO! NSW. Yes! The Snowy Mountain Range (The Snowies), with Mount Kosciuszko (our highest mountain) amongst them. \8D/

People have said things about how hard it is to live in Australia. I don't know about government regulations but us Aussies make everyone feel at home. In Australia, there are people from all over the globe. My friends are German, korean, Chineese, japaneese and South african!

I'm from Sydney! But i was born in Melbourne... I HAVE ONLY EVER BEEN IN THREE STATES! (plus the ACT but that's a teritory) QLD, Vic And NSW. And no Dani, I never met Steve. I watched his shows though... occasionally.

No, I never met him. But I used to watch his shows whenever they came on. I felt like i died a little on the inside when I heard he'd died. I'm sick of seeing his daughter all over the TV and the magazines and stuff. She's just not the same. -__-

I've only ever been out of Tassie twice, and they were both to go to Sydney. XD

We landed in Melbourne for a short time, though. :3

Oooh, I live in England, but my Mum is full, and my Dad is half Australian. So I've got family who live over there, whi are really nice and cool.

My sister and I love going to Austalia, because it's usually nice and warm there, we have family and friends there and people there are generally quite friendly.

We also like it because everything seems very eco-friendly, the town my aunt in, only uses paper, or fabric bags, there are no plastic bags in the town.

It's also cool, because you have Christmas in the middle of summer, so you can actually go outside without freezing to death to enjoy a walk on Christmas day, or use something that you may've got for Chrstmas!

Umm, I can't think of anything else right now...so...um.....hmmmmm....

When I was little my dad took us on a road trip to Australia's country site. (I have no idea how to spell that)

So, whenever I hear Australia I'll think of the country and horses. XD
Also Steve Irwin. He was and still is my fav animal show host. It also reminds me of The Sydney Opera house and kangaroos.
