....baaaaaad.
In my point of view anyway...
I still don't get why people need to put things under labels...
"You're goth, you're emo, you're cool blah blah blah"
Anyone sharing my POV? *shifty eyes*

I guess it's easier than getting to know the person.

But really, you can't judge people by their clothes... though I do sometimes for my brother and friends T___T. Same clothes, music, hair.... baaaaaaaaaaa.

If they're referring to dressing (excessive black all the time for Goth, for example), I'm okay with it, because it's what it is. Don't know why people are mad about being called Emo dressers. Technically, it is a type of style. Maybe because people often associate it with cutting and what not. Anyways, if you dress Emo, be prepared to be called as such.

But I don't take that into the consideration of the person. Sure, it has its influence (and most times the label is right where I live -___-;;), but I want to know the person first. If you think Goth = screw-life-where's-my-black-coffee-hey-check-out-my-dark-poetry-about-my-bleeding-soul all the time, you'll be in for a surprise.

Cool is measured more as popularity here. Cool clothes, though, only fit what people think are 'with it' at the time. For instance, disco clothes were cool back in the seventies, but not now. Cool is just relative to the time. As for personality wise...I'm not sure. Maybe the guy/gal that knows everyone, and is liked by a lot?

So, I guess I'm saying labels for dressing are okay to me, but not for the people wearing them.

I like writing seriously. :3

Hm...
Well, if you like dressing like an emo and just like the style and the music i think it would get frustrating if people told you to 'go cut your wrists and get it over with'
See it's not only dressing it's the music too.
And people who don't know call 'emo' or 'goth' whoever listens to something other than pop, hip hop and r n' b here.
I mean... they've called METALLICA emo.
Plus... I like listening to metal... does this mean that i HAVE to start dressing like a metalhead?
That's the way some people think out there.

Not at all. I like older rock, but I don't dress as that age. I don't think you can label someone by the music they listen to, since people tend to like more than one genre. Although, studies sugget that musical preferences do play a roll in your personality. So I think it may be easier to make assumptions based on music, because it's scientifically proven.

But clothes don't associate with music to me. See, my brother dresses, well, Emo. He likes some of that music, but mainly, he likes pop...or screamo. And he doesn't wear preppy clothes or skull belts. Also, that goes for his personality. He is a social butterfly that loves to hang out with his friends, dance, and sing. Doesn't sound too cut throat, does it?

So yes, I do make assumptions based on music more than clothes.

But this and stereotypes can sometimes make people's life a living hell.

I guess thing here and there are different and people here more conservative and well... stupid...
But trust me it gets frustrating when people call you emo or goth because you listen to metal music. Because they don't KNOW what it is and they just throw it like that. And exactly like you said EMO clothing doesn't HAVE to be connected with cutting your wrists. But some people just see it that way.
And why does everything have to have a label? Can't i do what i like without passing from one label to another and just be ME?

Oh and about your brother and the social butterfly thing...
At that point a giagantic butterfly with your brother's head popped up in my mind.

I lol'd.
HARD.

I make a simple metaphor and you twist it for laughs. XD

Goth? Emo? For METAL? That's just messed up. I can understand being called Goth for listening to Evanescence, or Emo for liking Cute Is What We Aim For, but Metal? Wrong. Metallica, though they have somewhat dark lyrics, are Metal, and they should be telling you to join a Metal cult if anything.
Man, that is weird. Do they really judge you be music? Wow. Hmmm...
You know what happened to my brother once? He and his friends were at the mall when two pre-teens ran up to them, called them Emo, laughed, and ran off. He was seriously mad, but I had to agree with the girls (unless they were thinking slit wrist crap).
I tend to look at Emos with abhorence nowadays. Not because of the style, but because EVERYONE's doing it. Emo here, there, everywhere. It's an annoying fashion trend. I'm starting to miss the plain old t-shirt and jeans look.
