I like the image in Duck's mind about him becoming whatever he said his superhero name is and Rev as "Bird Boy" when Ace asked Duck to let Rev tag along with him.

...I was going somewhere with this... I just don't remember where. >_< I wanted more color in this, just very muted and bland, or, if not, kind of black-and-white or sepia-toned. I didn't quite accomplish it, but I kind of like how this came out. (The second one is better, in my opinion.) The text is just for decoration (that's why it's tiny), but if you're really curious, it says, "A film in her eyes from the glow". I personally think it's quite readable, but that might be because I made it. :P Screenshot from Zadavia. Thanks! ^^

I know... they look almost exactly the same... but there's a difference, goshdarnit...

Yeah, i'm getting a sense of heavy-heartedness from those icons too. I think the dullish colours help bring out a more depressive tone.

Lexi definitely got happier once she joined the `Tics...and met Ace. You know, I think each of the `Tics were improved in some way when they formed the team.

Ace became more responsible; when he was a stunt bunny, he acted a little more foolish (performing martial arts like that is something more akin to Duck`s tom foolery) and rogueish. Once he became leader of the team, and got more respect (plus maybe an unspoken admirer), he became a lot more responsible, and less loner-ish too. (I can`t help but get the vibe he was a bit of a solo player when he was the director`s punchbag)

Lexi`s change is perhaps the most prominent, as she didn`t exude any of her current confidence or tough girl-ness when she was trying out for that cheer squad. All they had to do to get her lip quivering was to reject her (which is the basis for my theory of her fear of rejection). But once she met the team, and thus a group that more or less welcomed her warmly, she began cheering up, and I`d say some of Ace`s confidence and spirit rubbed off on her, though she still has her insecurities (as seen in Acmegeddon, Part II and A Creep in the Deep).

Duck...well, he`s working a much less dead-end job than pool cleaner now. His ego hasn`t deflated much, though. But, his heroic side does show itself now and then. Moving on...

Tech, I`m certain, improved in some way upon joining the team. His confidence has grown since the start of the series (he almost never bragged in Season 1, yet in S2 he refuses to acknowledge anyone could be smarter...ahem, "not smarter", than he is), and he has shown gradually less reclusive tendencies. You get the feeling eh`s real obsessed with his gadgets in S1, yet he doesn`t seem to be showing that same level of technophile in S2 (could this possibly mean he`s found some other subject to obsess over? Makes you wonder...)

Rev obviously likes his team. He`s nice to everyone, including Tech and Duck, the only members he`s ever actually argued with to any degree. This is probably because he`s respected more than he was as a delivery boy; the team doesn`t expect too much of him, and encourages him to try his best (Ace certainly does, I`m sure), which of course Rev always does give it his all, so like Ace, he`s more respected now, and like Lexi, he`s more confident now.

Slam...who knows why he became a hero? It`s clear he has loyalty in his heart, but what is that lotalty born of? What purpose does he have for serving the side of justice? Being the caveman speaker of the team makes it rather difficult to discern exactly what makes him tick. But, regardless, he`s shown an unquestioning loyalty to the team, and an unexpected gentle side as well.

[Sigh]... These displease me greatly. :| Well, this is the first time I'm experimenting with shapes, so please excuse the not so greatness of these two (I mean, I didn't even fix up the images all that much. I should be ashamed...) I'm still trying to get the hang of all these tools in PS.

An aside... I'm not an Ace/Lexi fan, but I know a lot of people here are, so this one's for you, you guys!

It was certainly portrayed in "The Comet Cometh" that the Loonatics led unfortunate and unappreciated lives before they received their super powers. The coming of the meteor was a dramatic change for all of them, not only physically in body, but also in their characters and lives.

I can't help but agree, especially the comment about how he acted kind of foolish. If you ask me, though, he hasn't entirely sheded it yet. I kind of like how you noted that he kind of acted like Duck at the time. The similarities between those two never end, do they?

I'd find it pretty amusing if the other 'Tics (especially the males) kind of disregarded Ace's authority at first, and for some pretty good reasons. I think Tech would dislike having to take orders from someone who knew much less than he did about science and technology, or even a 'jock'. Duck would...well, be himself. I don't know about Rev, Slam, and Lexi. Maybe if Rev had to be taught self-defense, Ace's teaching style would be far tougher than what he's used to, and end up having his feelings hurt more than anything. Rev would end up feeling worthless because he failed to do something up to Ace's standards. Ace seems to follow sports pretty closely, so maybe he'd recognize Slam as the "Twisted Spinner", only to incur his wrath when he mentions how relatively unsuccesful Slam was at pro wrestling. (and learn that no matter how many slick moves you know, you're kinda helpless when someone stronger and more muscular than you has you in an arm lock.) Lexi's a tough one. I get the feeling she'd be the first to earn his respect though, and vice-versa.

Yeah, i was thinking that Ace looked a bit silly doing all those over-exaggerated kung fu moves in front of the director as well. But i guess they were just trying to show Ace's unrecognised potential for greatness there before the coming of the meteor.

It would be interesting to see a scenario like what you described with all the other Loonatics initially disregarding Ace's authority. Although, my personal feeling is that it probably was only ever really Duck that voiced complaints about Ace being in charge. The others probably wouldn't have minded having someone else give them directions. Tech may have being pleased that someone finally believed in his abilities and work, and so would have been happy to help Ace with his skills.

Maybe because when he was in the wrestling industry, he never got to be the respected person he was cos he was mostly cheated out of victory (Watch "I am Slamacus".) Maybe he just wanted people to like him but unfortunately was born with less or no ability to speak perfect english. Therefore, most people assumed he was just someone with "all muscule and no brain", making him upset by this. But when the loonatics, (who had similar feelings in the past to Slam) treated him with a little more respect than anyone did in the past, he could have got more confident because of this.

That doesn't gurantee he was like that a over a year before in the LU universe. A year CAN change a person a lot. I'd like to see Ace have to earn his team's friendship and respect first. I think it's a scenario that can work in the story.

Actually, I see the first meeting going kind of like this:

After five of the members - Lexi, Duck, Tech, Rev, and Slam - arrive at the tower, they wonder where the sixth invitee is. Just as Duck begins to comment on how the sixth is late and keeping them waiting, Zadavia would tell them that he was the first to arrive, and actually began training in the training room to keep himself company while he waited (which would cause Duck to gripe about the sixth again, now over being too impatient. Right...)

They`d head to the training room to meet their final teammate, and would walk in on an impressive scene: Ace would be training against a number of drones and decoys, showing off some serious martial arts and swordplay, plus exceptional aim with his optic lasers. Just as he`d finish the training, he`d turn to see his teammates gawking in awe at him, causing him to blush. Apparently, he didn`t notice them walk in.

The whole group would get acquainted (Tech would also be marvelling at the technology of the tower, speaking of tweaking it a little) and begin settling in. While the team would be awkward working together at first (since they`re new with each other), the team would quickly grow to respect Ace`s leadership as they solve their first crisis.

Duck, of course, would be the one member not impressed with Ace, due to inner jealousy, and actually attempt to convince the team to give him a chance at leading (as Ace would not yet be the de-facto leader of the team, just very good at giving advice and orders to the others).

And like you say Crossfire, i don't think Zadavia would have put Ace in charge immediately, but only after the newly-formed Loonatics had faced their first crisis and Ace had performed promisingly and impressively.

Of course, I see Duck`s role in the origins story starting out as the jealous screw-up of the team, then he betrays the team midway or so to finally be the "hero" he always wanted to be, then while most everyone on the team hates his guts (except Ace, ironically, because Ace had trusted Duck just like everyone else, and is shocked - not furious - to see him a traitor), Duck plans to save them in order to redeem himself, and starts with Ace, who then works together with Duck to free their teammates, Ace`s faith in Duck restored. (I got this idea after Ace said "Everyone deserves a second chance, Duck. You should know that better than anyone.")

Then the demolition duo manage to help their teammates, followed by quick apologies from Duck, then they proceed to work out a plan to stop the villain(s), and we see the climax unfold from there. Along the way, Duck would accidently come up with the team name.

The Baku Rangers! Okay, I didn't make it up. I got it from a manga called "Negima!" and they had the baku rangers like in different colours. Baku actually means "idiot" in japanese so I don't know why they came up with it. But what I was saying is that these could be the following:

Ace: Yellow baku

Duck: Orange baku

Lexi: Pink baku

Tech: Green baku

Rev: Red baku

Slam: Purple baku

But I still prefer the Loonatics rather than the Baku Rangers. At least their name suits the new generation of superheroes sound better than the other name.

(A possible running gag could be that Duck was pressuring for a team name throughout the story; "After all, it`s better than just saying "team" over and over again, right, team?" Right...)

Yeah, so I went back and made the blue gradient of the Ace colourbar lighter. Now the text is clearer and it doesn't bug me so much anymore. xp
