That's the key word, isn't it - sacrifice. If he can't be killed, then there's no sacrifice beyond perhaps some pain he might briefly have to endure. Under Kaejae's model, it really is a sacrifice for the sake of his teammates when he throws himself in harm's way, because he's risking his life every time.

True but the act itself is still sacrifice. Tech's not immune to pain and considering that he can't die, I assume he suffers much more than a mortal (since he can survive really unbearable pains, which others wouldn't even have the chance to feel 'cause they'd be dead by then). Plus if it becomes a routine...on the long go, I can see that affecting Tech's personality in a negative way.
Yeah, I guess it is still a sacrifice, just in a different way. I don't even want to think about some of the things he might eventually have to endure if he were really immortal. But I'm convinced he's not, so it's all good. ^^
Oh, I definitely think it would affect him psychologically long-term. I could even see it ultimately leading to insanity.

I think after a few hundred years, the amount of accumulated knowledge that Tech takes in could start straining on his sanity. He'd be finding little purpose and meaning in life as the years dragged on, afterall, life becomes meaningless and hollow without death. And i could see him cutting himself off from society at large and becoming isolated, reluctant to form new relationships.
I do also think that Tech could make an excellent living shield for the rest of his team, but the show doesn't play on this possibility much, except in "Weathering Heights" as Ayelet pointed out. After a while, i suspect Tech would just get used to the physical pain he experiences every time he suffers a major injury.
Heh, if anybody has ever watched all of Ghost in the Shell: Standalone Complex, I could easily imagine an immortal Tech becoming much like The Laughing Man, condemned to the preservation of timeless knowledge and turned into a legendary pariah just out of society's reach. He'd have different forms and descriptions depending on which rumor a person believes. I, too, enjoy mysterious and hardening tragedy.
Ahem.
Anyway, since this is the appropriate thread, I have a question. Haven't seen every episode just yet, so can anybody tell me if there's been any more official light on Tech's college experiences? Other than his flashback before he gained his powers and his encounter with Mallory, I'm not sure if anything else has been factually shown. I'd just like to know, since it relates to the fanfic I'm working on.

Nope. No other event that reveals more of Tech's college years has been put into any other episode within both season 1 and 2. What sort of thing were you going to do with it Shagster?
A question though, Shagster are you going to use hyphens for Rev's dialogue?
Nope. Hyphens are too forcible to me. Just omitting the use of most punctuation is enough. That way his speech is naturally assumed as being stringed together without having to really think about it.

Oh, thank you so much! Hyphens are so robotic to my mind, and other than slowing down Rev's speech they also kill the character's charm to me. I'm glad you're not using them. Truly looking forward to the story now!
